Sorry to hear about this situation! The tick does need to be removed ASAP and the child put on treatment immediately too.
Here is a site with the treatment guidelines that can be printed out (one page) and taken to the doctor when the mother goes.

Immediately remove it with tweezers, gripping the tick by its head. Clean the area thoroughly and apply antibiotic ointment. Save the tick and bring it to the doctor so that it can be tested for Lyme Disease and co-infections. The little boy needs to go on antibiotics as soon as possible, in case the tick is carrying infections.

I get dozens of tick bites....
First thing to do is take something to reinforce the immune system, like Buhner's cocktail of herbs.
And also to put killer essential oils on the bite, many times a day (like 3-4 times minimum).
There are also bee venom creams, that I would smear and close with a bandage, possibly adding a slice of garlic on the bite (at least during the night).
I would treat the bite until it disappears (like 2 weeks at least), but take herbs for longer, just in case.
Always think BBB : borrelia, babesia, bartonella, and add some antiviral support.
I usually take Sanum products (antimicrobials, but in nosode form) after some of my bites. That is what I give to my daughter...
I hope she finds some help, but in the meantime, give the boy Buhner's herbs!!!
