I am finally starting my treatment and am at a loss about what I am going to do for liver protection.
My LLMD uses SP Livaplex. I can't use it because of some of the ingredients will hurt my bladder because I have IC and a VERY senstive bladder.
I don't want to start milk thistle because I will be adding Mepron in soon.
I've been in the lyme world for a long time but I'm finding myself having much more difficulty in treating myself. My DD could take anything the LLMD suggested and I just keep having to mark more and more stuff out because of the IC. I hate my bladder.
I'm really hoping my bladder starts healing at some point. I'm very hopeful. I will start Bart treatment soon which is what my doc thinks is causing it.
Thanks for any advise you may have.

This might give you some options for the liver. Keebler always has great posts about natural remedies for the liver.

- Pam,
Thanks so much for posting the liver support link. I'm thrilled when others have that (or any other of my sets) handy to share. Just thrilled. -

- jcarlnew,
Great suggestion for Liver Protect. I'd not seen this before. I'm adding it to my set of liver links, too. NAC is one of the top liver support substances. This formula combines other key ingredients, too.,
contains the amino acid N-acetyl-L-cysteine, a key component of glutathione—a tripeptide that plays a significant role in detoxification and antioxidant support.
Liver Protect also contains a combination of alpha-lipoic acid, silymarin from milk thistle, and selenium for support of antioxidant activity, regeneration of other antioxidants, and promotion of healthy immune function.* -

- kidsgotlyme,
milk thistle can be used with Mepron - it's just that dose and timing are important. Milk thistle - as most herbs that support the liver - can increase clearance time for certain drugs so that is why there is that suggestion floating about about not taking milk thistle with mepron.
However, other things that help the liver and even certain foods (such as grapefruit) can also have the liver working better to clear away the metabolic trash -- and with that sometimes Rx levels can also decrease.
And that is an important consideration.
Yet - liver support is absolutely vital however it is done. To go without liver support (whether key supplement or key nutrients in liver- supportive foods) could be dangerous.
It may be that careful look at dose and TIMING (a certain number of hours away from Rx dose) could open up the choices for you.
It's not an easy task so I hope your LLMD can help. If what they suggest is irritating to your bladder for any reason, let them know so they can suggest another.
By the way, I never did well with Standard Process glandular formulas, either. I'm not sure exacting what in Livaplex you want to avoid but in the Liver Links that Pam posted, there are lots of other options. And the one that jcarlnew posted looks very good -- as long as the timing question is figured out.
Good luck. -

- You say that you: " . . . have IC and a VERY sensitive bladder. . . . "
Berberine really helped me with IC and a good deal of the the bladder sensitivity. I also found avoiding some spices and being rather low oxalate with foods helped, too.
For instance, rather than spinach or chard as a leafy green, KALE is far kinder to the bladder as it's low in oxalates which can be irritating.
LymeToo has lots of good links on oxalates.
Also ask your LLMD about other coinfections as some can target the bladder more so than others.

For sure oxalates cause major pain so I avoid them.
My LLMD tells me that its my Bart infection probably causing the IC.
I have been trying to take D-Mannose for the pain. I also just purchased Uva Ursi to try. I'm hoping it helps. I think I have some berberine. I have taken it before for blood sugar issues.
Thanks for the info Keeber!!

I've been having trouble with my liver for the last few weeks in particular so I'v been using the Andreas Moritz liver tea and have gotten fast results.
To make the tea, mix the herbs together, put two tablespoons of the mixture in 24 ounces of water and soak overnight. Next morning simmer for 5-10 minutes and strain. I drink the tea on an empty stomach throughout the day. Mountain Rose Herbs now sells herbs by the ounce.
Andreas Moritz Liver Tea Mixture contains:
Dandelion Root (1 oz.) Licorice Root (1 oz.) Wild Yam Root (1 oz.) Gravel Root (1 oz. ) Milk Thistle Herb (1 oz.) Comfrey Root (1/2 oz.) Agrimony (1 oz.) Barberry Bark (1 oz.) White Oak Bark (1 oz.)

I also have IC and am a lot better. Bartonella is known to attack the bladder, so you may want to be tested for it. I definitely recommend going to a urologist if you don't already. The medicine Elmiron is amazing. It healed my bladder and stopped my extreme bladder pain episodes. Avoid acidic, citrus, and spicy foods and be sure to eat and drink a lot of alkaline, anti-inflammatory foods and drinks. IC flares are largely linked to what you're eating and drinking, in addition to the Bartonella if you have it. When your bladder is bothering you, eat raw pumpkin seeds and drink aloe vera juice. You may want to have both every day anyway, since it sounds like you really are in need of relief. My bladder feels better within half an hour of eating pumpkin seeds and aloe vera juice is very soothing, as well, because it is alkaline.
Sorry I don't know the answer to your liver question, but I sympathize so much with the bladder issues that I just wanted to jump in to help you. Hope you feel better soon! Be patient and take care <3

Thank you MissVictoria. Unfortunately, I've been at the IC game a long long time. I hate it but have learned to live with it.
I took Elmiron for a long time and then my hair started falling out. I decided I liked my hair so I quit. I do take Hydroxizine but not daily.
I am super careful with my diet. I tested positive for Bart so at least not I KNOW for sure that is my problem.
I used to see a great pelvic pain specialist but he left the area. Now I see a urologist and he prescribes bladder instillations for a bad flare. I usually will do five or six instillations a couple of times per year.
Thanks for taking the time out to think of me. I appreciate it.

You're welcome. I'm sorry you're having so much difficulty finding relief. Hopefully the Bartonella treatment will end up helping your bladder.
I felt great overall when I took Byron White Protocol for Bartonella (A-BART and BT-Detox), you may want to look into it
I went to my LLMD a couple of days ago and she said that Ozone Therapy is helping people with IC and tick-bourne diseases. She told me to ask my urologist if she does it
Definitely try the pumpkin seeds and aloe vera juice. They are game-changers in how my bladder feels. I stock up on them and have them right at my bedside lol

MissVictoria, just want to share this with you. I ended up breaking out the Rife machine to add in with my protocol.
I have been running the pain frequency, 10,000 and I aim the bulb right at my bladder. It is working really well!
I will wake up hurting and it brings my pain levels down to a very manageable level.
Just thought I would share.I have a homemade machine.
