I want to use up all the supplements out of out my unused supplement drawer. I am too cheap to throw them out. They include SOD, Dismuzyme, phosphatidylserine, and acetyl-l-carnitine.

Is there any reason I can't open up the capsule, put them in a food like coconut yogurt or flaxseed and take them all at once? My stomach cant handle yet another gel cap.

It wouldn't be safe to take them all at once. You don't want to overdose. Also, make sure that they aren't expired before taking them

I wouldn't do that - You need a ask a doctor or pharmacist - This has always been a very, very dangerous practice - See below>

Crushing tablets or opening capsules: many uncertainties, some established dangers.

Abstract:
For patients who have difficulty swallowing, a common solution is to crush tablets or open capsules. What are the consequences of this practice? We reviewed the main evidence available using the standard Prescrire methodology.

The clinical consequences for the patient of crushing tablets or opening capsules can be serious: alteration of the drug's absorption can result in sometimes fatal overdose, or conversely underdosing, rendering the treatment ineffective.

When it disrupts a drug's sustained-release properties, the active ingredient is no longer released and absorbed gradually, resulting in overdose. When a gastro-resistant layer is destroyed by crushing, underdosing is likely. The active ingredient released may degrade on contact with light, moisture or the food with which it is mixed for administration.

The person who crushes the tablets or opens the capsules is exposed to drug particles, which may be carcinogenic, teratogenic or fetotoxic. They are sometimes allergenic. In practice, there are many drugs that should never be crushed or opened.

Before crushing a tablet or opening a capsule, it is better to consider and research the impact it will have on the drug's effects. It is sometimes preferable to use a different dosage form, or a different active ingredient.

In addition to good advice from Miss Victoria & from Steve,

A few calls should find the all the answers for each item.

If you can date when you got those, it will help - or see other codes on the bottles, etc. Have in hand when you call. Often, their phone / website is printed on the label.

If ordered on line, your account history can help date the purchase. Sure helped me.

If you can recall the reason each got pushed to the side, ask the manufacturer's customer service specialist, too, or cross search your symptom with that product to be sure it's a good fit for your body to begin with (if you have no ND to ask).

Recently I found some powdered herbs I had years ago put in clean glass jars - but they didn't really agree with me for some reason at that time so they got pushed to the back of the cabinet.

I called the manufacturer directly and was told that after about 2 years - with these particular powders from this specific company -

that they should not be used past a certain date as they could have grown fungus BEYOND that time as the potency of the herb's broad range of antimicrobial action got weaker with time.

There can be other reasons for a plant / herb, a vitamin or nutrient, or an Rx to go bad after certain time.

Best to call the tippy top direct manufacturer and talk with someone there who really knows what to tell you - usually not the person who answers the phone.

Also ask the best way to discard. Herbs / plant matter is usually best discarded in the trash. Nutrients, too, perhaps.

Do not flush down toilet, though or wash down the drain.

Rx might require dropping off at a medical office. Best to not put in trash as animals can get a hold of it -- and they go into our water table and harm fish, wildlife, and our own water supply when the water treatment systems don't filter out such stuff.

A lot of them dont have dates and I am not motivated enough to call the manufacturer so I will toss them.

However I looked up each of those supplements I can buy all of them in bulk powdered form and they seem tremendously cheaper.

I think my stomach is sick of the gel caps. So I think I will give the bulk a try.

If that study is correct, cutting a pill would be bad too? The end becomes exposed. This makes eliminating drugs that you are dependent on or addicted to really difficult.

Please call your local pharmacy to ask a pharmacist. We don't want you to harm yourself unintentionally
