So I pulled a partially engorged tick from my daughters head a few days ago. No rash just inflammation around the bite like a mosquito bite that went away quickly.
No symptoms of anything from what I can tell but I know it’s early. I have a list of llmd’s but we can’t find one that treats children. Are there guidelines that we can take to primary for doxy dosage and see if she will prescribe?
Looking for guidance, any help is appreciated. I’m totally freaking out and can’t sleep or eat worrying about this and I’m not sure where to turn now. Thanks

I am sorry this happened but glad you found the tick. I see you live in MD, an endemic area. Can you press your daughters primary care doctor for antibiotics as a preventative?
If you come to the table with knowledge of how severe untreated lyme can be your doctor might be willing to give you 2 weeks at least, giving you time to figure out next steps.
Naturopaths are often lyme literate and you might be able to find one who will prescribe a month of Doxy.
Its great you are on top of this and will be looking out for symptoms, you are already ahead of the game.
Get her on probiotics to bump up her gut and immunity, Vitamin D as well.

Thanks for the reply. Is doxycycline what she needs to take and is the dosing more aggressive than for normal infections. I will try to find a naturopath.
Also I still have the tick and I put it in the freezer while it was still alive. Does anyone know if it can still be tested? Thanks

- No one here can legally tell you exactly what Rx in what dose or length of time - for your daughter to take. We can lead you to general guidelines, however,
and I hope that others will come through with some doctor options for you.
Yet, in kids, the same antibiotics used for adults are often not a good idea. There are others, though.
I know you are worried - so sorry. Maybe her immune system will be strong for her (or maybe that tick might have been one of the few to not carry any pathogens. Just be sure all the tick parts were extracted and none are left in the bite).
Check with your state and local lyme support groups - call the leaders of all around you.
Some coinfections that ticks also can carry are not affected at all by the antibiotics that are used for lyme. Babesia, especially is one to consider.
And - AVOID STEROIDS unless also on good solid antimicrobial treatment and guided by an ILADS educated LLMD.
Btw - I know you are new to Lymenet, but please break up your posts into 2-3 sentence paragraphs, as there are people on Lymenet who cannot read large blocks of text due to neurological problems from Lyme.
To do this click the pencil/paper icon, make your changes, then click "Edit Post". Thanks.
