This is a very big topic, of course. I have read and studied about it on and off for years, including conferences with Shoemaker speaking.
We have had a very bad mold issue in our apartment for years, and our previous landlord didn’t want to do anything more than a cosmetic fix---not even fix the source of the leak. It’s a long story, but we have a new landlord who wants to fix it, but again, only a cosmetic fix.
We finally hired a lawyer and are having a mold inspection with the landlord and his hired inspecters tomorrow. All of the issues are large. We will see what comes of all this.
We can’t really afford to move, unless there is no other good alternative---and would have to move a long way away and still pay more than we can afford.
We have to empty out the “bad closet” in our bedroom (where the worst of the mold is) today and tomorrow for the inspection tomorrow afternoon.
I have quite a bit or precious items in the closet that I should probably part with----silk items that can only be dry cleaned, not washed. Probably I will put them in plastic bags for now and delay the pain of throwing them out. Lots of other items in there that are similar, although some could be washed.
I know that many would say that everything porous should go---which eventually will mean our bed, bedding, clothes, furniture, etc. One thing at a time, I guess. My husband thinks that’s nuts to get rid of everything, although he does think I should part with the things in the closet.
It’s all overwhelming, and I have lots more to do later to figure out what to do. Plus, we’ll see how far we can get with the landlord legally.
I am allergic to mold and, I think that I have some of the dreaded HLA genetics. I’ve been very sick for a long time with TBD’s, etc.
Does anyone here have much knowledge and experience with mold? Any words of wisdom on cleaning porous things, as opposed to throwing them out? Big subject, I know.

Rumi, sorry you are into this mold problem. Mold is not good for anyone, with or without allergies, but worse for those with diseases...
Have you read my post about the end of nose allergies? I used celery juice there, and now I added some garlic that I prepare home, after I read Buhner's Herbal Antibiotics.
he's got still more recipes in the book, for sinuses and nose, with several tinctures. I haven't done these, because basically the celery juice drops solved these problems:
- dust allergy (very bad, possibly my whole life).
- mold reaction (sneeze, feeling bad etc): no more sneezing, I feel tired after dealing with moldy clothes, books, boxes, etc, but I don't collapse, like it would be the usual for me.
- end of pollen allergies. Not long ago, couple of weeks / months, I felt literally like dying at a certain point. I could not open my eyes, I had to crouch and suffer only.
I did my pollen homeopathic drops I learned with dr K, and it took me 1 hour to be able to open my eyes again: they were burning, like with acid. It was JUST pollen allergy!!
Now, zero, nothing. I don't use the tissue paper for anything, except during celery or garlic nose drop application.
I don't sneeze in the presence of dust, mold, pollen, no runny nose, nothing in the eyes, zero.
I'm still baffled.
- a lot of mucus has been released, and it's still coming out when I use Celery juice there (or garlic, it comes even more).
There was certainly chronic infection and chronic mucus accumualated in my sinsues for decades.
I just started this experiment to get rid of chronic cheekbone pain, after a teeth I lost to lyme disease about 13 years ago. The pain was much better, but it kept coming back.
I thought I had infection only there, not in my whole sinuses, ear canals, even eyes.
Well, read my celery juice threat, if you're interested.
My daughter never did the celery / garlic experiement, she's still with all allergies, to dust, mold, pollen...
And she was much better off than me there.
I'm going to try to find my thread and pull it for you.

Thank you. My allergy to mold (if I still have it) is not like a regular allergy. I do have sinus issues, but that is not the main issue. As you say, and anybody knows, mold isn't good for anyone.
We just had a mold inspection with assessors from the landlord. Then, we have to wait for their written plan of action, which they spoke about when they were here. Some of it remains to be seen.
We need remediation badly; it's been a long haul with this issue.

Thank you, hopingandpraying. I was at one of the ILADS conferences and heard her speak, along with Dr.Neil Nathan (do I have his name right?).
And thank you, Keebler for your notes!! I will have to go over this material.
Mold is such a big, difficult issue. And even more so when we rent. Although someone on LN recently was saying that they have mold but can't afford to sell their house.

Chlorine dioxide kills mold.

Do a search at Amazon to see other chlorine dioxide products. This is the same "miracle mineral supplement" that has been discussed here for years, to treat Lyme.

Thank you, Carol. When used for mold, do you use it straight or diluted and by how much? I assume that you don't use an activator the way it was used in oral protocols.
I wonder, is chlorine dioxide ok, where bleach is not? I already knew that bleach is not good. Unfortunately, the mold assessor from the landlord on his first inspection spoke about killing the mold with bleach. Arghh! I will fight that one.
Ugh, Lymetoo, that you have to deal with it, too. At least you are attacking it.

Yeah, it's costly too. So you will have to fight them.
My contractor said the flooring under the tub was destroyed .. really bad and has been there a long time. We've been in this place for 5 years.
Sadly, we BOUGHT it last year. Six months later our upstairs neighbor ran his dishwasher and left town. A pipe broke and it rained into our condo for 3-4 hours while we were at church and lunch.
So now we find all this mold in the bathroom.
I think we will still have to talk to Serv Pro about the kitchen area from last year. What a battle.
