I've been taking a combination of VSL3 probiotic and Arthur Anderson's Floraphage prebiotic for the past several years for c. diff. The effective dose is really high, higher than I want to continue taking.

Does anybody know if the two caps/day recommended dose of the probiotic Dr. K favors for c. diff. is enough? It's BioImmersion's Supernatant probiotic.

Florastor, with its lactose and traces of soy, wouldn't work for me.

Hi.. Do you have an active c-diff infection?

I did the supernatant 4 caps a day and and it wasn't enough.

Are you doing saccharomyces boulardii?

Have you done or considered a fecal transplant? I ended up having to this through Flora Medicine in Portland. Really easy though, oral capsules.

I don't have an active c-diff infection but have had to go off the VSL3 that I've taken for years to keep it at bay. It always comes back if I don't take something for it; I want to be taking that something before it comes back and wreaks havoc on my digestion again.

I did three fecal transplants with a doctor in Florida who specializes in them. The transplant only kept the c diff at bay for about six months. My doctor thinks my pancreas's not making digestive enzymes lets undigested food pass into my gut, where the food is a breeding ground for bad bugs like c. diff. Until I find digestive enzymes I can take whose protease doesn't bother my heartburn, taking something to keep c. diff. at bay is necessary for me.

Oh I see. C-diff sucks so bad. I'm glad you don't have an active infection.

Yes, mine came back too and had to do another fecal transplant. I am almost when to the Florida clinic as well but he had stopped taking patients.

Maybe The supernatant would work for you since you don't have an active infection. I was using it when my infection was pretty active. Then I switched to the VSL3 for a while.

My c-diff was complicated or kept coming back because of an underlying Protozoa infection and also found I was living in a moldy house for the past 12 years which mold will increase your chances of getting c-diff. (certain molds in the body)

I was told you need to keep the gallbladder moving with bitters or something similar, saccharomyces at least twice a day, and a probiotic. Right now I'm doing lots of fermented veggies, miso etc. Also, can you tolerate like garlic? Something to take to just keep bad bacteria down?

I'm curious, where you live? Biomagnetism has really saved me when the c-diff starts to creep back in as long as I am on top of it fast. There are two biomagnetic pairs for c-diiff and they are helpful. The magnets will not treat an active, raging c-diff infection but when it starts to creep back in, if you place the magnets it will really help. I'm happy to help you with this if you are interested. It is something you can do easily yourself at home.

The thing that allowed a two-capsule dose of VSL3 to work for me was taking it in combination with Arthur Andrew's Floraphage, a bacterial floraphage which functions as a "probiotic multiplier" magnifying the effect of any probiotic manyfold.

Unfortunately my liver's detox pathways are stressed and I'm having to move toward gentler detox; taking the Floraphage was, for me, like a nuclear bomb when taken with probiotics. My detox pathways never adapted to the die-off.

That's partially because my lack of digestive enzymes doesn't allow my liver to have enough proteins on board to deal with toxins adequately.

I have yet to find gentler products and am scared of the assortment of infections that are going to come back if I can't get anti-infection supplements in place before they do.

Oh Geez! Thats hard a situation. I was reading this morning about foods that contain natural digestive enzymes and there are many but I'm sure you have looked at that too.

Have you tried that digestive enzyme by Integrative Theraputics called Similase Senstive Stomach? They leave out the protease and addd marshmallow and a couple other soothing GI herbs along with digestive enzymes. Just a thought.

Castor Oil packs really help me with a gentle detox.
