Hi, I am being treated for MCAS with cromolyn, claritin, pepcid and omeprazole. They ruled out carcinoid syndrome. I think I have Babesia also. I need to do the 24 hour test. Do I have to be off all these meds before the test? Can I just stop taking the cromolyn? Thanks, jvs

I was tested before treatment. Can you ask your allergist? -------------------- Do not take this as medical advice. This comment is based on opinion and personal experience only. Alaska Lone Wolf

Most MCAS patients do NOT remove medications except for anti-inflammatories. Taking the cromolyn or H1's and H2's will not affect the test. -------------------- --Lymetutu-- Opinions, not medical advice!

Lymetoo, would you explain what cromolyn does? I don’t have MCAS but other friends so and one suspects she does. I am trying to understand why cromolyn and H1 and H2 won’t affect the histamine test. You know so much about MCAS an and I admit I know very little but would like to add to my knowledge to help others. Thanks. And JVS , good luck and let us know how it goes. -------------------- Hiker53 "God is light. In Him there is no darkness." 1John 1:5

I don't understand why it doesn't affect it .. that's for sure. Maybe because they aren't testing the BLOOD at that time? But I had a second test once and did not go off the meds. My histamine was actually a bit higher than the first test. But anyway, Cromolyn and the H1's H2's help calm the mast cells, praise God! PS... MOST knowledgeable doctors know that the patient need not come off the meds to do the tests. It's too dangerous for many patients. -------------------- --Lymetutu-- Opinions, not medical advice!
