It's been in the news of this allergy to red meat caused by a tick bite. Noting there are many more unreported cases similar to lyme reporting. Mentions lone star tick.

What are the symptoms of Alpha-Gel ?
Hives or itchy rash Nausea or vomiting Heartburn or indigestion Diarrhea Cough, shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing Drop in blood pressure Swelling of the lips, throat, tongue, or eye lids Dizziness or faintness Severe stomach pain
Symptoms commonly appear 2-6 hours after eating meat or dairy products, or after exposure to products containing alpha-gal (for example, gelatin-coated medications).
AGS reactions can be different from person-to-person. They can range from mild to severe or even life-threatening. Anaphylaxis (a potentially life-threatening reaction involving multiple organ systems) may need urgent medical care.
People may not have an allergic reaction after every alpha-gal exposure. If you think you may have AGS go talk to your healthcare provider.

It's very common in the Midwest, sad to say.

sooo, I have SX of alpha gal . I have suspected it in my for a while although v mild . now I had terrible attacks in middle of night- thought I was going to die. dr. line sent me ambulance immediately. I took H1/H2 double dose and 2 benadryl and started feeling better in 20 min.
BUT, my BP doesn't go down- it goes up! I have always presented my allergy SX this way. yes, along with syncope/pre syncope, and a slew of other SX.
I started eating more red meats because my ferritin is always too low (low normal) and my practitioner told me to eat more. also she RX me lots of suppplements that happen to have lots of animal parts/gelatin, etc...
PCP rx proper test but it came up "<.10" and with the range for pos. - <.93- From what I read its .10 or more???? but there was a note w my results saying to see allergist for alpha gal confirmation.
PCP says "no allergies" but how can that be? w V classic response
