Adding to the complexity- we know HBOT can activate the PPP. To simplify, it is a pathway our cells use to make the energy carrier, ATP and our RNA and DNA.
Bb uses that pathway to make its RNA -> DNA. Bb needs the 5 carbon sugar - ribose 5 phosphate.
PPP is linked to glycolysis and can also feed back into glycolysis.
We know at the outset of Lyme, oxidative phosphorylation is “uncoupled” and the impacted cells make way less ATP. (Which is why some Lyme patients tried to speed up glycolysis (make a lot more ATP than normal) via the illegal drug, DNP which burns fat too -> very fast and DANGEROUS weight loss treatment.
However, HBOT appears to also impact oxidative phosphorylation - (ox phos) the use of oxygen to make ATP because it increases ROS and that triggers antioxidant defense - up goes NADPH!
A long time ago, I read, if you can get hydrogen into any cell, you can heal that cell. NADP H. Is that the key?
Okay..stick with me..An enzyme (likely Mg dependent) called transketolase (TKT) can
balance the flow between
the PPP and glycolysis to meet the cells demand for both NADPH and R5P.
I suspect HBOT favors NADPH over R5P - impacting Bb’s use of that sugar via impacting the enzyme transketolase.
Supposedly combining a ketogenic diet and HBOT work in synergy. Did you notice “keto” in transketolase?
R5P is produced at the END of the non oxidative phase of the PPP- critical for RNA-DNA synthesis.

Bb has several dehydrogenases…
LDH = lactate dehydrogenase is one.
Dihydroberberine and nano quercetin inhibits it.

The non oxidative part of the PPP can be reversed to feed intermediates back to glycolysis which does produce ATP.
Bb uses glycolysis as its primary pathway for energy. LDH is required to keep glycolysis running.
