Hi,

I called about free Mepron/malorone from the drug company. I was told that the "patient advocate" had to call for the application. that the family or friend could not apply. I was also told that the patient advocate had to be within the same state.

I asked Nemours pharmacist if they would request the application and they said since they do not carry the drug they will not.

My mother's doctor is not within the same state. We do not have a social worker or anyone similiar. Any suggestions??

The Patient advocate just has to call and request the applicatin be sent and then call back with the income information. The "patient advocate" is then instructed to tear off the portion of the application that is a RX CARD and instruct the person to take that card and the RX from the doctor to any pharmacy for the free medicatiuon.

It also said that they will not accept a patient advocate that charges a fee for their services. I can not think of how to "find" a patient advocate.

Any suggestions??
It said the patient advocate can be a nurse, social worker, physical therapist. My mother does not have any of these at this time???

Any suggestions?

Aunty,

As far as I can see, YOU are the patient advocate, as you are the caregiver.

Maybe try calling back, saying you are taking care of someone and that person asked you to request the info for them. It might work, especially if you get a different person on the phone.

So many times I have received totally different information from pharm companies, depending on whom it is that answers the phone.

The patient assistance program I am on now (non-Lyme related) does things very differently. My doctor writes the script, sends it in, and I get my meds.

I initially received my information from the PHARMA website. They sent me a booklet with all the drug companies in it, all their toll-free numbers, and up-to-date patient assistance information. It really helped me a lot.

Wish I could help you more!

Hi,

I know this thread is kind of old, but is there any possibility someone can update me on who I can contact for free Mepron?? I desperately need it and cannot afford to pay for it right now.

I'm in New York right now, but normally live in the UK so I guess by the time the long weekend's over I'll be back in the UK, but can hopefully apply from there. But, I haven't got the faintest idea about getting free Mepron. (I did have info before on Rocephin I think, but am guessing that is a different situation all together).

Any help appreicated

Go to yahoo and look up Mepron Patient assistance. You call the 800 number which I do not have but can locate in the next few days.

Have your physician call and have a application form faxed to them and they will need to apply as your advocate. From that point you will be asked to provide financial information to show your inability to pay. They will only communicate with your advocate, never the patient or family.

The advocate has to be a doctor, nurse, pharmacist or social worker.

Based on your income, they will inform you if you are eligible.

Thank you very much.

I was just trying to figure out how it worked after finding some websites on the subject.

Do you think it's a problem if I live out of the country (even though I am a US citizen)? Or is it simply income based.

If you have any other info I would be grateful - you can email me if you want to send it directly. Thanks.

That may pose a problem. My mother's LLMD is out of State and we had to find a advocate within the state where she lived.

It wouldn't hurt to call and check. You could be saving close to $1800 if they say yes. Can they check your Federal Tax returns?? I know that is a requirement??
