"Apple Pectin, in the diets of humans and lab animals, has been shown to increase the excretion of lipids, cholesterol and bile acids, and reduce serum cholesterol levels. Pectins operate by binding with bile acids, thereby decreasing cholesterol and fat absorption.
Official Latin Name: Malus sylvestris
Apple Pectin is a source of water soluble fiber which has a gel-forming effect when mixed with water. As a dietary fiber, Apple Pectin is helpful in maintaining good digestive health. Pectin is defined as any of a group of white, amorphous, complex carbohydrates that occurs in ripe fruits and certain vegetables. Fruits rich in Pectin are the peach, apple, currant, and plum. Protopectin, present in unripe fruits, is converted to Pectin as the fruit ripens. Pectin forms a colloidal solution in water and gels on cooling. When fruits are cooked with the correct amount of sugar, and when the acidity is optimum and the amount of Pectin present is sufficient, jams and jellies can be made. In overripe fruits, the Pectin becomes pectic acid, which does not form jelly with sugar solutions.
An indigestible, soluble fiber, Pectin is a general intestinal regulator that is used in many medicinal preparations, especially as an anti-diarrhea agent. Our ancestors believed that old proverb "An apple a day keeps the doctor away". Today, nutritional scientists research for evidences that verify how Apples are good for our health. Apples are rich in pectin, a soluble fiber, which is effective in lowering cholesterol levels. Apples work in any form (raw fruit or powder or juice) to maintain good cardiovascular health. Researchers at the University of California, Davis, found that Apple Pectin acts as an antioxidant against the damaging portion of cholesterol in the blood stream. Many researchers suggest that people who eat fatty foods should, if possible, wash down this food with apple juice rather than the usual drink.
Researchers have found that raw Apples are the richest of fruits in pectin, with the Jonagold variety of Apple leading other varieties. A diet of low fiber, high fat, and animal protein appears to be the leading cause of death in many people. It has been established that a diet rich in Apple Pectin can protect against these diseases.
Research in Japan has found that Apple Pectin can also decrease the chances of colon cancer. Apple Pectin helps maintain intestinal balance by cleansing the intestinal tract with its soluble and insoluble fibers. Apple Pectin tends to increase acidity in the large intestines, and is advocated for those suffering from ulcer or colitis, and for regulating blood pressure.
Pectin is also effective in causing regressions in, and preventing, gallstones. There is also evidence that the regular use of Apple Pectin may lessen the severity of diabetes. Along these lines, it has been suggested that fiber-depleted diets actually help cause diabetes mellitus. Other studies have shown that the regular consumption of Apple Pectin could lead to permanent reductions in insulin requirements (to prevent the possibility of insulin overdose, diabetics should make their physician aware of the dietary change).

just to add to the above information, the malic acid and tartaric acid in apples help inhibit the growth of ferments and disease-producing bacteria in the digestive tract.
The pectin from apples and sunflower seeds also bind to radioactive residues and help remove them from the body.
In addition to pectin, seaweeds, wheat and barley grasses, micro-algaes, and miso can also help counteract the harmful effects of radiation.
So after every x-ray I always drink a green juice with apple pectin.

Up --- for someone just asking about apple pectin........
I put additional apple pectin into the apple I grind up every morning, along with MSM, Inuflora, Vit C, and whatever else I feel is beneficial at a particular time.
Just make some jam someday and add a little too much apple pectin. This is what I did a couple of days ago when I ran out of jam and made some out of my raspberries and blueberries. You can cut out most of the sugar, the apple pectin will jell it to perfection nevertheless. Picture this happening in your intestinal tract - it's all firmly bound --- and out it goes, instead of recirculating the neurotoxins, whichever ones they are - metals or Lyme or viral or candidas - over and over and over .........
Pectin (powder) is available in half-pound jars. Mine is by Solgar. Just check around for the best price. The capsules are too expensive.
Yes - an "apple-a-day" still holds true, except in today's environment, one apple alone just quite doesn't do it any longer.

Kathy, you can order it over the internet - one of these herbal places carries the 1/2 lbs container. Most healthfood stores do not - they just have the capsules and that gets to be expensive. And why swallow another pill if you can mix it into some food or juice, etc. Drink it quickly before it jells though.
Runner, liked my apple sauce - did you? It's good stuff, keep taking it. It mops up more than just a mercury molecule!

I've seen it in the health food stores. since it is from a fruit, any possibility it could feed candida in any way shape or form?

Was just searching for an old post that I did on MSM. I ran into this one - good info.
The answer to Gwen - is NO. Pectin has nothing to do with the fruit sugar. The pectin is from the peel of the apple. That's why peeling an apple is not the thing to do, as long as it is not loaded with pesticides. It works as a gel in fruit compotes, etc. I put it into the raw apple sause I make for breakfast in a little blender, for pancakes, etc.

My doctor has just recommended I take calcium d-glucarate for a severe herx. It assists the liver in one aspect of detoxification.
Looking it up, I found one natural source is apples. Seems like the old adage of an apple a day keeps the doctor away may be right.

Beta Glucan - It is basically a soluble fiber that turns into a thick gel when dissolved inside the digestive tract. This gel, in turn, binds with excess cholesterol in the body to prevent absorption. It comes from the cellular wall of barley, oat, yeast, and from many kinds of edible mushroom as well.

Vit C just for fun for taste in my appl. I shouldn't even do that because the apple should turn brownish first to develop the beneficial enzymes before eating. So I toss a bit of C in after it turns brown a few minutes after chopping in the blender.
You are talking about killing pathogenic organisms -- that's totally different and they are not to be mixed and taken at the same time for obvious reasons. Kill first, and then clean up neurotoxins afterward with binders.
I also learned I woke up a lot happier in the morning if I took plenty of binders when going to bed.
Neurotoxins, all of them, will be around for many years after Lyme is long gone. I am betting that a lot of people suffer from remaining neurotoxins and not from active infections because they are too lax with binders and think their work is done while the neurotoxins are finding a new place to create disturbance and pain.

Makes sense.
I just ordered the B&D food chopper - 390 5 star reviews on amazon - and it's 19 bucks. Can't beat that.
Looking forward to grinding my Granny Smith apples soon!
GiGi, The applesauce wasn't a problem for yeast was it? I'm doing granny smith because they are supposedly lower on GI index.
Did you ever deal with yeast issues during your Lyme endeavor?

Dr. K. also told me to research the CCVSI and gave me a protocol to start for my husband. Have you checked that out? Apparently this type surgery is done in various cities already.
Canefan, no, I ate all the fruit I wanted, and that is always a lot for me. Wish people weren't so paranoid about fruit. Plus an apple every morning and our favorite dinner is potato pancakes with apple sauce, especially during apple summer! We have fruit in the evening literally every day and no yeast problem ever. When not eating the apple raw as in the morning, I cook it with skin, only seedless, and grind up a huge batch with the EHC 650. (I think I returned the one you ordered because it was too difficult to insert and remove the bowl. I have used the 650 and given Dr. K. at least three of them because he gives them away to his patients and then has none at his house.....I think he prepares his cocktail in it also! I do.

Canefan, No, the apple for breakfast with a teaspoon of pectin (maybe a few drops of water) is chopped in the little blender - takes seconds - it sits while the rest of breakfast is prepared - then eaten first thing.
Apples for storage are cooked briefly in my pressure cooker, one minute, and then pureed in the little chopper and frozen to be used for other purposes.
