I did Rocephin via push before I had a IV line, it was done through a hep lock.
Its mixed with saline and put in a big syringe, its faster and easier than the IV drip, i have no idea if the effectiveness matters or is a factor though.

Hi Wildcondor;
Thank you for your reply. Is the Hep locK some type of port-a-cath?
Also, do you know aprox. how many cc of saline was in the big syringe?

thank you so much
best,
lea

I'm sorry I dont know that info. I hope someone does. I am curious for a friend of mine if you can use the powdered rocephin that you would mix with lidocaine to do an IM shot, and mix it with saline instead and do an IV push? Any nurses/doctors on here that can answer this.

Seems like doing the IV push method could be a good alternative if your insurance wont pay for IV, and but you have an IV line and can pay for the Rocephin yourself.

Can anyone explain the IV push directions, and also, if Rocephin IM shots are ever done daily? Thank you.I think i will post this as a new question.

Hi Lea,

I don't know anything about the IV push but I can answer your question about a hep lock. A hep lock (if I have it right) is a peripheral IV line that is usually inserted into your hand or wrist and has a needle, no actual line going into your vein. It's the kind most commonly used in hospitals for short stays.
