I have a swollen lymph node behind my ear that is very sore to the touch. Has anyone else had similar problems? Should I worry about this?

I assume that you are describing an actual lymph node on the neck near the ear instead of a sore lump on the ear lobe itself, right?
Either one would be "normal" for a Lyme patient to experience, but they are of somewhat different origin. I am assuming that you are probably undergoing treatment, so the lymph node on the neck would be from what is draining down out of the head area and being processed by the lymph nodes in that area.
If it's on the ear lobe, then it's probably that spirochetes have moved into the cartilage in that area, since spirochetes love connective tissues, like cartilage. When they are looking for spirochetes in mice and rodents, they often like to collect samples from the ears because they know that that's a good place to find the spirochetes.

Swollen lymph nodes are quite common in lyme disease. There is a massage technique called the Vodder method that helps. It is a VERY GENTLE massage. We have lots of lymph nodes scattered in our bodies.
I didn't know that about the ear lobes as a feasting place for the keets, TX. Wow, interesting! Makes sense.

Yes, it is an actual lymph node behind my ear, on my neck. I am about 9 months into treatment so hopefully it is a normal thing. I just have never had this happen before, so it scared me.

Hi Scout! I know exactly what you mean about the lymph nodes behind the ear. They can even be sore to the touch. I too have been on treatment starting 9th month. All my lymphnodes are still quite large, especially in my arm pits (& sore too). All my shirts are driving me crazy. I have stretched them out under my arms. LOL Big Bartonella symptom is what I am told. Good luck & take care.

I have been having pains under my arms for the last few months. I have been on abx for about 7 months. I try to feel if the lymph nodes are swollen, they don't feel like they are. There is pain there, I have stretched a few shirts out in the armpits as well.

Hello Scout, I am sorry to hear about your swollen lymphnoids. I too have the same problem. I have 3 lymphnoids swollen in my neck,2 on my shoulders, on both arm pitt's,groin area, and behind my knee's.
We had a good chat about this on friday.I went to a benifet for good friend who has breast cancer this past weekend, and she has alot of the same swollen lymphnoids.which is really scary to me!!!
On Friday ,Trout Scout told me to make an appointment for a mamagram to rule out cancer. His wife also has BC and he said i have the same symptom's .
And also, TX Lyme Mom said to make sure there is no cancer before you have the massage of the lymphnoids done too.
So on Friday before i went to the benifet, i did make an apointment for the mamagram !!not going to take chances!! Then if things are all good, i am going to go for the lymphnoid massage.
I was put on I.V. Rocephen for 5 weeks because of the swollen glands, and that didnt help at all, I am now trying lymphnoid cleanses and have gotten one of the noids on my shoulder to go away.
TX Lyme Mom, thanks !! that really does sound right about the drainage from the Brain. I do have a lot of the neuro with the lyme. makes prefect sence!!!! you all are soo smart here!!! and i really am glad for all your knowledge!!
Scout, maybe look for a lymphnoid cleanse and try it. cant hurt anything!!! that is what I have been doing.Have you done a liver cleanse or galbladder cleanse?? It is good to do one after being on abx!!
I wish you good luck and hope you feel better soon, Brenda

I had sore lymph nodes under my arms for years. My PCP didn't think anything of them, probably was an early warning sign. I also get swollen lymph nodes in my neck now that I'm on abx. That comes and goes, like everything else. Sometimes I think that they get so enlarged that they affect my ability to swallow.

Thank you everyone for the replies! I am concerned that 2 people have mentioned Bartonella. I did not test positive for this way back when, just Lyme and Babesia. I have had some concerns about Bartonella in the past few months as I have gotten stretch marks (even though I have not gained any weight, actually I've been losing weight) and I've had some eye problems (itchy, watery, bloodshot)off and on which I know is also a symptom.
Yikes! I guess I better call my LLMD. I have been on Zith for the past 2 months- I wonder if that is bringing things out.

my vote is also for bartonella....and very few people actually test postive for it...it's a tough coifnecton to test positive for.
i have it and so do both my kids and none of us have tested positive for it..but we've had all the symtoms adn responded favorablly to the the meds, herxing along the way etc....
you definitely need to talk to your llmd about it...swollen lymph glands are a dead give away.....
bartonella...
