Hi Everyone,

Derek and Mikayla went to see Dr.Jones today for thier follow up visits.

We just got back about an hour ago...what a long trip. I wanted to stop by and give you all an update...

*Update*

I'll start with Derek...

Dr.J said that Derek is doing a lot better. Of course I knew he was getting better, but it was nice to have it confirmed

Derek asked me to tell everyone ( especially Lishka) that he is feeling so much better, that he is now able to play baseball again!!!!

He is so excited about his new found energy and that his joints don't hurt so bad that he can't run the bases. Last year the pain in his knees made him spend alot of time on the bench. Not this year!

We were playing ball 2 nights ago, and he hit the ball way out into right field...so far his mom couldn't get the ball in time to stop his homerun.

He was so pleased with himself ( as was his mom ) So I congratulated him on his homerun, and he said he wasn't jumping up and down because of that, he was just so excited that he was able to run all the way to home plate without having knee pain, or losing his breath.

So I would say he is on the mend. His self esteem is certainly improving as well.

He still has some chest pain issues, minor joint pain, neuro symptoms and a few other things that we need to work on, but he has come so far in such a short time..we are thrilled!!!

.

Okay, now Mikayla.......

Mikayla is doing better as well. She isn't improving as quickly as Derek, but she started meds 4 months after he did, so I'm sure that makes a difference.

Plus she has been very sick since she was 18 months old with what I was told was Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome...So as Dr.J said, it only stands to reason that it will take her body longer to fight the lyme.

But I do have some impressive news to share. As most of you know, she has been having horrible vomiting episodes about once a month since she was 18 months old.

She would vomit for about 4 hours and pass out from sheer exhaustion. Her last episode was in September 2003. It was so bad, that her eyes were rolling into the back of her head and she passed out.

Dr.J started her on antibiotics in November, and drum roll please..... She hasn't had a vomiting episode since ( knock on wood).

Her dad and I are so pleased about this. We were told by the ducks that she would have to live with her vomiting episodes for life, and now she gone 7 months without one!!

Needless to say, Mikayla is very please as well

We also had to force feed her for 9 months and about 2 months ago, her appetite came back, and she is hungry all the time!

Dr. J said that is a good indicator that she is getting better..

Also, her night sweats have stopped and she looks so healthy and happy now. She still has a long road ahead of her, but she has made some great progress...

Well, that pretty much sums up their visit..

While we were right there in New Haven, we did a walking tour of Yale and visited the Yale Art Museum. We also did a little window shopping and had lunch. Living in the woods, the children are fascinated with the city.

Thank you all for your continued support, thoughts and prayers for Derek and Mikayla...I know your prayers are working every time I see my children smile..Thank you all!

Hugs and Wellness!
~Missy

Missy, that's good news for both of your children. I hope this will allow you to have a better night's sleep.

Wow, Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome, I've never heard of that, but, that seems to be what I have. I have been vomiting in cycles since November. I've now been scoped from the bottom to the top and pictures of everything in between, and, we, still, don't know the cause.

Has Mikayla, surely, by now, rocovered from that? Over how long a duration was she vomiting? What, if anything, made it better?

Thanks for sharing the new with us,

Rosemary

hi Roses,

Thanks for the well wishes!

I have over 100 links of information about Cyclic Vomiting...I researched it for 3 years

Mikayla started having these vomiting spells out of the blue at 18 months old. She had just recovered from a bad viral infection, and we were told that the viral infection probably triggered the CVS.

She has suffered from these spells for 4 years. Dr.Jones started her on antibiotics for Lyme in November, and knock on wood, she hasn't had another vomiting episode since.

Her specialists are telling me, that they now think that the lyme may have caused her CVS and that as her lyme is being treated, that her CVS may be either cured or in remission..though I'm not sure if she ever even had CVS, it may have all been from the lyme..

Anyways, here is some information for you about CVS. I have tons of links and research papers if you need them..just let me know:

In cyclic vomiting syndrome (CVS), people experience bouts or cycles of severe nausea and vomiting that last for hours or even days and alternate with longer periods of no symptoms. CVS occurs mostly in children, but the disorder can affect adults, too.

One of our friends is 40 years old, and started having vomiting spells ..she was diagnosed with CVS last winter. It can strike at any age...

Here is a great link for CVS:

Best wishes,
~Missy

Missy

What Great News!!!!

It is so good to hear how Derek is out there living again. I remember when Dominic couldn't walk to first base w/o having to stop to try to catch his breath, now we are begging him to stop running around.

I also know how great it feels to mom when you get to see them doing things they could do just a few months ago. GREAT,GREAT,GREAT!!!!

Sorry took so long to reply, we were in Biloxi this weekend.

Tell Mikayla to hang in there, with a great mom and big brother taking care of her soon she will be close to 100% too.

Hugs
Starr

Funny, I just looked on my fridge today...YES just today, and saw those beautiful kids. I stopped, and said a prayer for both of them and thought "I need to write a letter to each of those special kiddos and see how they are doing, and of course send them some pictures of us!

Now, I came to the board, and heres this absolutely WONDERFUL update.

Thanks for taking time...and Derek...the NEXT homerun is for me..ok?

I love you guys and am so glad your on the meds.

I will pass this on to Lishka...ok?

HUGZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz
