My wife is now on synthroid low dose .50mg How many woman on here have started synthroid since catching lyme? and will your levels rise back up when lyme is gone? Will you then revaluate and if normal stop synthroid? or cant they go back to normal?

Has anyone here came to this point yet?

Hi tree,

Since Lyme, I've been put on levoxyl (same as synthroid) and cytomel (a T3 med.) There is some evidence that autoimmune thyroid disease is actually an infectious process, and will improve with antibiotics. I'm hoping, but it hasn't happened yet.

The good news is that thyroid supplementation has a long history of safety as long as the supplementation is at the appropriate level.

I'm having regular checks on my thyroid levels, and believe me, if I need less, I'll take less! In the meantime, it has taken away that feeling that no matter how long I sleep, it is never enough, my skin and hair are not dry anymore, and I no longer get swelling in my throat and tongue.

I am on the same dosage of synthroid as your wife, and started a few months ago.

I don't know if your thyroid function returns after Lyme. Everything I read says you are on synthroid for life.

I know an endocrinologist and will try and ask him next time we talk.

Hi Tree,

I was put on synthroid as well, the good news in my case, is that I have been off the synthroid for about a year and continue to test normal.

So for me, I only had to take it for about a year

Best wishes to you and your wife!

Hi tree,

I've been on Synthroid 100 mcg since being a teen...until Lyme.

I do go to an endocrinologist and have for years for my yearly thyroid tests, but because of Lyme, my test results changed, and I've changed dosages twice since then...once to 88 mcg, then to 75 mcg, which is what I take now.

Weird!

Good luck.

Hi: I too was put on Synthroid about 4 months ago due to LD. They started me off very slowly - .025 3 xs/week, then every day. They then upped it to .050 every day, and now I'm at .075 every day. My blood is checked every 4-5 weeks for thyroid levels and other areas since being on abx, etc. I too am VERY hopeful I can come off this stuff at some point. We shall see! Very best wishes.

I have been taking .2 mg Synthroid for over 30 years - probably had Lyme longer.
