Has anyone survived a hysterectomy (incision style) without being slammed with a profound increase in Lyme misery? I have read many of the stories on LymeNet describing severe symptoms after hysterectomy...never returning to work, taking years to begin to feel a return to a tolerable state of Lyme life etc.

Is there anyone who managed reasonably well in their recovery?

I have finally reached a point after years of struggling where I can get through most days at work without severe exhaustion and crippling symptoms. To lose all of this for a fibroid the size of a grapefruit that I am told must come out leaves me in despair.

My llmd has spoken with the surgeon. I will be on IV Rocephin before, during and after the surgery. Additionally, my llmd suggested a spinal rather than neurotoxic anesthesia.
Can anyone share experiences with different forms of anesthesia?

Anyone have a positive story to share? Anyone?

Thanks for reading this.

HI Aspen,

Just wanted you to know I read your post. I wish I had a positive outcome to share, mine was not good, but I was ill prepared, never thought it would trigger the Lyme.

I do hope someone has a positive story to share. Surgery for me was the last straw that reactivated my Lyme big time.

Good luck, sounds like you don't have any option. Your LLMD sounds like he/she is on the ball, so maybe you will be the positive success story. I hope so. Barb

I had a negative experience as well....however, I was not being treated for LONG-standing Lyme when I had the hysterectomy.

Has your dr considered shrinking the fibroid with hormones? I know it's not a pleasant way to get rid of them, but neither is surgery.

Because you're currently on abx, perhaps it won't be such a problem. I hope it won't!
