To anyone and everyone, I have been recently having problems breathing everytime I did my IV drip of Rocephin mixed with dextrose. It also was a trigger for my pain. More specifically, and the only way I know how to explain this is when it is freezing cold, and your running, it hurts when you breath in the cold air... and THAT IS MY BREATHING PROBLEM!!! The shortness of breath that I have is cause by a pain in my lungs that everytime I breath it is cut short by this coldness that hurts like HELL! More recently, This new BREATHING ISSUE has comes on everytime my pain medication wears off (and this is when I am not doing the infusion). Went for a Picc line x-ray today and everything is fine. HELP!!!!! Any is so greatly appreciated! Thanks

Did you mention this last time you had the PICC checked?
I think this would merit a call to the MD who prescribed the IV meds. I did not have dextrose with my Rocephin and have no idea what it does or should do.

Dear K-lyme - you didn't mention how long you've been on IV Rocephin and how long you've been experiencing the breathing difficulties...suggest you call your LLMD(even if you get a covering MD) to let him know what's happening...breathing difficulties are listed as an allergic reation to the Rocephin and as far as I understand it that can occur anytime during tx....when you went for the x-ray for PICC did anyone listen to your lung sounds...you really need to see your MD...good luck.

Hi Everyone, Thank you for all your replies. Yes, I didn't mention this to my LLMD but did mention it to the Pharmacist who is supplying the Rocephin mixed with dextrose. He didn't seem to think that it was an allergic reaction because I didn't have big welts. I have been on the IV Rocephin for a little over a month and a half. My home health care people listen to my lungs every week and say that everything is fine. Thank you all so much for your input, I greatly appreciate it. What to do.... Oh what to do....

I hope you're feeling better, k-lyme.
Please do mention this to your LLMD ASAP!
However, it is possible that you're experiencing a herx. It's not one that I've heard of, but I'm sure herxes come in all shapes and sizes.

hey klyme this is the zman... I have always had a problem with my lungs when on ceftriaxone(generic for rocephin) any longer than one and a half months. The last time was recently and then the doc treating me went right to cleomycin which is good for pneumonia or bronchial problems... Yeah, this could...in my humble opinion be related to the rocephin...cuz it happened to me three times already...came down with pneumonia or bronchitis all three times seven to eight weeks into iv ....they really couldn't pinpoint what it was...but it sure was'nt fun...leviquin was given to me iv two previous times and that cleared it up but had to do albuterol the first time...in 99. good luck my klyme bud the zman
