I was diagnosed with Lyme 11 years ago & am still fighting my battle.
My husband has just tested positive for Borrelia but apart from developing high blood pressure last year, has no symptoms.
Should he seek treatment?

W.

Hi W,

I don't know,I would seek the cousel of a LLMD, Lyme Literate doctor. People can test positive for lyme and not have any symptoms, but I think to treat or not to treat has to be a decision of a LLMD and your husband.

I wish I could have helped more.

Definitely a LLMD should be consulted - but personally I would vote for treatment on a positive test.

Why? Because just because he has no overt symptoms right now, doesn't mean it's not doing its dirty work behind the scenes.

Example: me. After my initial treatment for a tick bite, I thought I was well. For 3 years. But then I found out - it had been cooling its heels in my nervous system, and now I had full-blown neurological Lyme.

Don't fail to follow this up.

It's the decision of your husband, of course. But as Dan said, you don't know what these darn keets are doing in the background.

My husband also has Lyme and his main symptom right now is also only a high BP. But, before we knew he had Lyme he had a long story of health problems which we now know to be related with Lyme.

He started with fever and (Lyme) hepatitis, then got Celiac Disease, cysts in testicle, back problems, vision problems, joint pains, etc., etc.

Also, my LLMD is 100% convinced that Lyme is sexually transmittable. He says it doesn't make sense to treat just one partner because they will go on playing ping pong with Lyme, unless they don't use condoms.

So this is also something to be considered.

It is a problem, though, for somebody to go through this long treatment if he doesn't feel ill and he's questioning why he should do it.

It's a difficult decision.

Gabrielle
