I have been taking diflucan for 12 days now at 100mg.
I went to my GYN yesterday and he checked me for yeast and the test was negative. He even did some kind of DNA test, which was also negative.
Is it possible that the diflucan killed the infection, but to still have irritation?
I had a urine test done which was also negative.
I only have a few more days left of the diflucan, but i dont want to quit it because of the irritation.
Could this be some kind of yeast die-off? Im so tired its unbelievable. Im taking tons of acidophilus, garlic, grapefruit seed, echinachea and something called yeast busters.
Im very frustrated. I was eating a boca burger today and read the ingredients and sure enough, there was some yeast in it.

Ugh,
I hear what you're saying about yeast. A royal pain in the butt and other various places The good news is
you don't have a VISIBLE yeast infection down there, the bad news could be you have yeast elsewhere such as
in your gut, in your blood, even in your bladder ( which can cause irritation) and won't show up on any tests a gynecologist can or usually does do.
You can definately be herxing from the yeast die off, and...
if I remember, you are on doxy, right?
I had a small problem with having to scratch the living daylights out of myself "down there" when I was on doxy. Sorry - no other polite way to say that.
Candida is tricky and a major pain. The tests for candida are just as unreliable as lyme testing. For YEARS I swore I had vaginal yeast infections and for years, I was told " nope, you dont". And im sorry but it was quite obvious that I had yeast!
The best thing I found to do was just go to a wholistic doc to have it treated. By the time I got there- I didnt have a vaginal yeast infection.. I had it up my nose, in my mouth, under my toenails, in my gut ( found via testing) in my urine ( found via testing) and in my blood.
Keep going with what you are doing! Hard to say what is going on, but I hope it gets better for you. It wouldn't hurt to use monistat just in case. They also have a product called YeastX that you put on the outside for irration.

Hey there,
Oh yeah doxy made me itch.. and it all began at the most inopportune time; when I was sleeping! Hehe.. imagine being woken up and asked " What ARE you doing?"
Unfortunately, I don't have my yeast under control at all, it has me under seige.
Diflucan is GOOD .. if you dont have a real bad yeast problem, but unfortunately with all these abx, one never knows.
Diflucan can though, cause resistant yeast, which is something you don't want.
There are TONS of natural or supplemental yeast killers you can use.
ThreeLac, Candex, garlic, olive leaf extract, oil of oregano, the list goes on. Im not saying go OFF the diflucan, just pointing out that candida is a tough son of a to get rid of- its just as sneaky as lyme
and just as hard to kill ( with almost the idenitical symptoms, including neuro) as an added bonus.
Keep up with the yogurt and all the other stuff. Im sure your doc told you wear only white cotton panties, do NOT use colored toilet paper and forget hot baths for now.
Fun, huh? I hope it clears up soon.

Just a side note ~ Echinachea shouldn't be taken long term. It should be rotated. 10 days on ~ 2 weeks off, etc.

Jordan,
I dont think you can OD on anything you are taking. I wont say "its because they are natural and/or herbs" because the same has hurt people, sometimes bad. BUT, if you can tolerate, I say go ahead.
The echinea though, if I were you *and Im not* but if I was, I would not take that product. There have been too many reports of liver function going haywire from that and just recently, I was reading one of my herbal books where it stated that echinea *MAY* actually supress the immune system.
Now, diflucan? TOXIC. Very very hard on the liver. Nystatin is virtually non toxic and they give it to babies for oral thrush mouth, etc. They gave it to my daugther when she had vaginal yeast ( shes only 6, but has been on abx since birth due to what I THOUGHT was UN lyme related problems, only to find out they ARE lyme related problems)
You're not going to hurt yourself with the garlic! That much I know. YOu're gonna stink, but thank goodness you don't have to sit next to me. Candex is a good product.
My son was born with all kinds of problems. He had ear infections OUT the wazoo to the point his ear LITERALLY oozed green, yellow and blood. I had him at ENT after ENT here in my local county. They did tubes on him and pushed more and more abx on him.
Finally, I took him to the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh for his ear problems on top of all the other problems I was already taking him there for. Within ONE day of admitting him ( since he was bleeding out his ears!) they told me they had cultured my sons ear AND blood and that he had candida and that was the cause of all of his problems. ( at least his ears)
From that day forward, I have read the living crap right out of yeast and what it can do to the body. And, ever since they PICC lined my son for that yeast infection and fed him yeast fighters through his PICC, that child has only had two infections. That was 4 years ago. I am by NO means an expert, but I do know what it can do to the body, but as far as treatments for it,
every time you turn around, there is a new supplement or yeast fighter that they have found.
I hope I am answering your questions about overdosing, etc. Pretty much, no. You CAN injuire yourself with herbs and supplements, I mean though they are touted as "natural" sometimes they are just really not.
For example, candex.. while its good for you because its an enzyme ( which is what you REALLY need for yeast) if you take it 2 hours after you eat, you WILL be speaking to the potty for more than half the night.
Keep it up with the yeast treatment, ya definately don't want that to become a blood problem as it is for me.

I agree with Crime in that if I were you I would NOT take Echinachea at all, period. Bad, bad stuff reported too often about thsi product.
However, I would take Diflucan too long either. You can try adding Monistat and see if the "itching" stops. It worked great for me in combo with the Diflucan and Nystatin.
Also, get some "live" acidolphilus from Wal-Mart...you have to ask for it for it is refridgeratored...the acidolphilus in capsules laying on a shelve are dead and of no help.

My LLMD keeps me on Nystatin as a preventive-- non-toxic, no side effects, no yeast, very easy. The liquid form has sugar so tablet form is better. If I run out and go off it, I DO get yeast. Ask your doctor what she/he thinks about this for you.

Thanks for the tip on the echinachea. I read about it in my Candida yeast guidebook. There are so many other options that i think i will "shelf" that one.
Crime:
Wow, i cannot believe all you have gone through with yeast. Actually with everything in general.
I think im going to go buy olive leaf extract and oil of oregano. It says in my book that you can evern "herx" form the olive leaf and that they used it to treat fevers and malaria.
Rosemary:
Tonight i will load up on the Monistat too. I bought the one day dose while i was away in NY, but fortuanatly, i got a prescription of diflucan phoned in.
I see my LLMD next week and i hope she will prescribe nystatin for me.
Also, i will try to cut down on my products with nutrasweet. Thats the only thing left that im doing wrong. Along with one cup of regular coffee. I wanted to use up what i had (good excuse).
Thanks to all for your help. Maybe she will put me on something different than this doxy.
