Kam,

Have you flushed your line with saline? I have had blood in my line many times. Usually it happens when I do alot with my arm. I just flush it and it goes away...
This works even if the blood has been in the line for a long time...did you forget to flush? When I first started doing my IV I would forget to flush first and the IV wouldn't work. I hope this helps!

Kam,
I was the one that had problems with blood backing up in the Picc line. I was told to flush with heparin whenever that occurred.

The line would clear right away, but within an hour it would fill back up. They couldn't explain why that was happening, but as long as I could flush and infuse without difficulty, they were not worried about it.

I was flushing up to 8-10 times a day, but I made it to the end of 56 days. I had the line pulled last week and it looked fine when it came out! Who knows?

Good luck and I hope the problem straightens out for you.

Pitnum

I had tried flushing it with saline and that didn't work.

We then tried flushing it with heparin. That worked.

Houston we have contact! The mission was accomplished. I now have my daily dose of rocephin.

Lymenet Lymies save the day again!
