Are they the same band or not? on my IgG from Specialty labs it just says 23 and it's absent. The one from Igenex is 23/25 and it's highly positive. Same band or not?
The NEXT IgG blot I got from Igenex (a few months after abx theraby) the 23/25 was only equivical. So maybe when they reported the +++ earlier on it was wrong? Or are 23/25 and 23 just not the same band? Hope this wasn't TOO confusing!

Bb can express a large number of outer cell proteins at any given time. It can change which outer cell proteins are expressed given it's host environment and threats from antigens.

This is one reason that lyme testing can be so changeable at any given time.

Your immune system creates antigens (each number you mention is a measure of a particular antigen) to these outer cell proteins...This is one way that our immune systems battle invaders...recognize an alien protein, create antigen, kill invader....

So, if lyme can change it's outer cell proteins constantly, the expression of the antigens will have to change as well..That is why your tests can come back as strongly positive one time, weak or equivocal or negative another.

That is why your Igenex profile is different from time to time, not due to lab error.

This ability to change outer cell proteins is an ingenious method of insuring survival of Bb....and one reason why we have such a hard time treating and dianosing it.

lyme expresses OspC when in the tick's gut, and changes to OspA as soon as it encounters the mamalian host system. Hence the failure of the lyme vaccine to do much good for many of us. (it was based on OspC)....

If I didn't hate this bug so much I would be absolutely in awe of its abilities to avoid host defenses. It can also change form from motile corkscrew to cyst, which is largely impervious to antibiotics.

All of these changes, plus others that I haven't talked about, are why testing and treatment of well established disease is so tough....
