Maddog,
Benzathine Penicillin is Bicillin LA. It's great stuff! I think it saved my life, certainly any good living I had left. It does take a while to work so you have to be patient.
For a tough guy like you, it should feel about like a mosquito bite.

My husband is on a shot a day for 5 days and then off over the weekend. He was giving them to himself in the leg but found out the nurse at his work gives them for free.
This should heal him. I can see a difference. When his treatment is over in 6 months to a year, he will take the Bowen test again to see where his lyme is.

Great stuff!

Hi Maddog!
Glad you are home after the Buffalo River trip. Sure wish I could have been there, too. I was in the area, but couldn't get to the river because of a set back. I am okay now.
As for the Intramuscular Penicillin shots, I know quite a few people that it helped greatly - really remade some people's lives. Most of them got a friend who was a nurse to administer the shots and or learned how to do them themselves and saved some money.
There are some new needles that really work well with minimum of discomfort. I will try to find the article on that and send it on.
All the best,
Ann - OH

Hi all. I've been away from this site for awhile due to all the medical drama in my life. I did want to comment on the Bicillin. I have and am getting 3 shots per week intramuscularly in the hip area. If the shot is administered properly, it will not hurt or leave you sore. The bicillin is very thick. It is kept refrigerated and should be removed about 1/2 hour before administering. Who ever gives the shot should give it very, very slowly. This way, it doesn't tear the muscle fibers and leave you feeling like a mule kicked you. My sister give me mine (had to go to training) and I have yet to get sore. The only time I did get sore was when a couple nurses that were in a hurry gave it to me. I've been on it since mid-April with no end in sight.

Its great stuff and so much easier than pills! I did all my own shots for over a year and the stuff works great with other antibiotics too... I took Bicillin LA 3-4 times per week at 1.2 along with Flagyl 750/2x and Biaxin 1500mg, it kicks butt!

AAAOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Compared to the various forms of pain and suffering associated with Lyme disease, especially in its chronic form, the relatively minor discomfort of the shots is nothing. The package insert for Bicillin is pretty clear that the butt is the most acceptable injection site.
