I tried minocycline a year ago, but it was prescribed by a pretty inexperienced person. I took 400mg/day instead of 200, and took other abx like zith at the same time. After a month, my liver enzyme levels shot up, my emotional stability crashed, and I was in a delirious fever almost all the time, with headaches, dizziness, etc. But for a short time, the mino worked better than rocephin. I'm about to try mino again with all the other abx, and will check back in if the side effects diminish.

Good evening Hillary,

I am currently on Mino 200mg and IV Zith 500mg...alternating monthly, replacing the Mino with IV Clinda 1800mg. (Also, plequenil, flagyl, quercetin, etc., etc...)

Right now, it is a great protocol for me...
But, when I first started IV Zith...I had major herxing meltdowns, and had to stop after only a couple of weeks.

These two drugs will also get at Bartonella...so, I am addressing that infection as well as Lyme. I think that is why the Zith really knocked me down at the beginning, as I had not taken anything for Bartonella previously.

Zith and Mino both have known reps for being difficult for most to handle. They are powerful drugs...and the lines of communication should be kept WIDE open with your LLMD when beginning either one.

See this thread on Mino: http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/Forum3/HTML/007449.html

You can also do a search in the archives on Zith...by following this link:
How to use the LymeNet Search: http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/Forum5/HTML/000464.html

I've been in treatment now for about 16 months, and have done many orals... including a short round of IV Rocephin for about 5 months. Each time, I began a new protocol; I would make some progress for awhile, but slip back eventually.

I can honestly say that I am now feeling VERY good on this combo...but, it did take a long haul to get here.

So, hang in there...much hope is to be found with the proper protocol for you!

My best,
Melanie

I was on this combo - but not with as high a dose of Zith as your taking.

This was an effective combo for me, as was Mino/Bactrinm.

Be carefull of the high dose ZIth - if you get any pain under your right lower rib cage - suspect your liver. Zith can really
raise Liver enzymes.
