A medical professional who has a great deal of experience in the area of Lyme testing and treatment, has told me the following:
A false negative for Lyme test results can sometimes be avoided by taking the following medication prior to testing for Lyme Borreliosis.
750mg Flagyl (Metranidazole) ER (Extended Release) once daily for 5 days prior to Lyme testing.
If the Flagyl ER is not available, then the recommendation is: Flaygyl 500mg, twice daily for 5 days prior to Lyme testing.
In either case, the Flagyl is taken orally for 5 days with the blood test on day 6.
In my opinion, Igenex Lab in Palo Alto, CA is the only lab qualified to adequately test for Lyme Borrelisosis. You must call Igenex lab at 1-800-832-3200 to have them mail a test kit for the blood drawing lab to use. Since Igenex is only open M-F, and the shipment method is a TWO DAYday airbill, you must plan accordingly. Blood should only be drawn M-W.
The rationale behind using Flagyl (Metranidazole) prior to testing for Lyme Disease (Borreliosis) is that Flagyl breaks open the cyst form of Borrelia burgdorferi. The cyst form is the form that the spirochete retreats to when its survival is threatened, and it is impervious to both antibiotics and the immune system. By breaking open these cysts with Flagyl, the immune system can then react to the bacteria. This immune system reponse is what the Igenex Western Blot is looking at.
See previously sent information on recommended tests below."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The tests recommended to our group, in order of importance, are:
Call IGeneX Lab 1-800-832-3200. Ask for test kit to be sent for the following tests: (Note: Blood should be drawn M-F, since shipping is 2 days and lab is only open M-F) This will require a physician to write a prescription for the blood draw and lab test.
Top two tests (#188 and 189) are critical.
# 188 Lyme Western Blot, IgG $90 # 189 Lyme Western Blot, IgM $90
I have always heard Igenex was the best lab. However, they don't test for the strain of Borrelia that I have in their normal range of tests they do which are covered by insurance. I don't know which strain this is, or which ones they test for, but I was quite surprised to find this out during energy testing. So, if you have the strain of Borrelia I have, nothing is going to get you a postive result. I don't know that any other lab is better. I don't use conventional testing anymore anyway, but others should be aware of this.
Bob, are you fortunate enough to have an energy tester that has several or all types of Borrelia (hi-res photo slides, nosodes, frequencies, etc.) for energy testing? Or the different types for Babesia energy testing? I learned that there are some 200 different mycoplasma alone, one of which is part of my doctor's Lyme energy testing.
If you do, I would be interested in knowing his/her name so that my doctor could contact him/her.
At this point though I think there are too many mutations of all these bugs - I would bet that if you get infected via a mosquito, which has been proven, the testing/infection/reactions are different again.
They are just bad bugs period. Stay away from them. Spray yourselves - I made my own with all the different plant oils I have around the house.
Take care.
I see Dr Cowden of Fort Worth whose name has been bandied about on Lymenet recently in regards to the Samento article.
Oh, how nice, Bob. Dr. Cowden is an invited speaker at my doctor's upcoming Conference
"Heavy Metal Detoxification Principles, Strategies and Pitfalls" at the end of July here in our city. I know they speak with each other quite frequently. I am really excited to be at that Conference. Lyme Disease and all the other pathogens, parasites, etc. usually are discussed. It is always changing, it's never status quo, what works better today than yesterday is discussed, etc. Free thinkers and out of the box. I am glad you have a doctor like that.
Dr Cowden has heavy metal detox covered pretty well with the laser accupuncture detox, but maybe he can learn some new tricks on the treatment of parasites at the conference.
