I have changed my meds from Zithro and Plaquenil to Biaxin and Plaquenil. It was going ok and after two weeks my doctor changed the Biaxin to the XL version so that I would take it once a day.

I think it is working because now I must be herxing but it is causing pain in my stomach much like severe heartburn.

Has anyone else had this experience and what did you do. I have e-mailed my dr. but no answer yet.

I have been on plaquenil and biaxin for 7 weeks now and haven't herxed yet. I have had lyme for 2 years before diagnosed and I told my Dr. that I'm experiencing more pain that I did a few weeks ago, but don't think I'm herxing and he told me it was early in the treatment. I'm looking forward to herxing so I know that this is working for me. Never had the heartburn type pain your experiencing, I had pain in my right side when walking too much and goes away with time, but makes it difficult to walk.

Are you eating with the Biaxin XL? Its supposssed to be taken with food to increase absorbtion,

regular biaxin is not.

If you are still eating with it, I know the listed effects are nausea and vomittin and other stomach problems.

I heard that plaquenil also is terrible on the stomach.

You can't take Biaxin XL with propulsid ( major interaction) but you can talk to your doctor if you could take something like nexium, etc.

I take the XL kind also and only once did it totally destroy my stomach to the point I had to quit for a day. It wasnt very fun.

I was on Biaxin for a couple months. For the first 2 weeks I had nausea and heartburn, and then it faded away.

I added Plaquenil and there was no change.
