Hey all, was just wondering...I am down from my fighting weight of 165 to about 142. I need to gain weight, at least a little. I look like a stick man! Any suggestions on how to gain a little back?

Also, I've been doing some research here, lots of searching, because I want to find something to help me detox. I've seen a lot of things mentioned:

Chito-power....seems pretty pricey
Chitosan...is a "fat-trapper"...would that be detrimental to me gaining some weight?
Activated charcoal...looks promising, still trying to investigate
Chlorella...still trying to investigate

Also thinking very seriously about taking the MagTab SR and starting with that...seems to scientifically proven to ignore.

Any suggestions on what would help the most, or what worked best for you?

James

Hi James. I have also lost a lot of weight. Used to weightlift constantly but with my backaches and lack of energy I have gone down to 165 from 210 at 6 feet. I have started to take protein powder with fresh juice from my juicer. Putting on quality weight is about taking in enough protein. I am mostly vegetarian now and don't want to increase the acidic level of my blood so I have been taking vegtable protein. I have found a good overall powder. Natures plus source of life. It is loaded with good stuff.

I can relate, this disease or diseases has caused me to lose about ten pounds.Im five eleven and 140lbs,stick man too.I believe the reason for my weight loss is the restlessness caused by bartonella,do you have bartonella.I do feel I am starting to get better on rifampin so I will see if the weight comes back now and then I will know its the bartonella.I eat a lot of vegys but its hard to gain weight on that so I also eat oatmeal with spelndor and cinnamon, some cheese, eggs, beef.Scince Ive started rifampin and also milk thistle my liver enzymes have become normal so the thistle might relly work to detox but I think its the bart dieing,I HOPE.Joe

I, too, am having a problem with weightloss. I am currently down to the lowest weight since Junior High school (I'm 53 now). So, I have been drinking 3 large chocolate milk shakes from McDonald's per day for the past several months to keep me from going further down.

Of course, I am not currently on abx, or I wouldn't be doing this. I am only able to eat like a bird or I just get sick. For some reason the shakes go down and don't come back up and are very high in calories to keep from slipping further into anarexia.

I have now lost all the weight I gained when first fighting this disease because of inactivity and then I kept loosing even more. I am currently at about 126 lbs and in a size 6, which I haven't seen in a very long time; I am 5'5" and looking sickly now.

Hopefully, now that things are settling down in my life, I will be able to start on a new protocol and this too shall pass.

Rosemary

I had to put my two cents in.

I have also lost weight. I have been between 92 and 100 pounds since having 3 surgeries since november.

My normal weight is around 105. I am 5'5".

Last month i weighed 100 pounds. However, i lost 5 pounds since then and im back down to 95 pounds.

I think its because im following the candida diet. Its just so hard for me to eat anything, because im a vegetarian. Im getting sick of broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts and tofu.

Anyway, as long as i can stay above 95, and not lose anymore, i guess i will be ok.

I have been eating macadamian and almond nut butter on brown rice cakes. I need the fat grams for my mepron. You would think THAT would put weight on me, but nope.

Good luck to you,

Jordan

Have you tried avacados? You can make a really good avacado sauce (avacados, lemon juice, basil, onion powder, garlic powder, salt) and put it on top of some brown rice.

How about coconut milk? I use it for a lot of things; good for sauces, soups, and gravies.

You can make good vegetarian patties with nuts, seed, lentils, and split peas.

I knew that I was not the only one here with underweight problems. (I'm 6 feet, around 140 pounds.) And yes, I think it has to do with the toxins in our bodies. Our cells are so toxic that they cannot use the nutrients from the foods that we eat, and cannot produce the enzymes needed for the production of other enzymes, proteins, fats, sugars, etc.

DMC,

I forgot to mention that im a very picky eater on top of it all.

I hate avocado!! YUCK.

But, i will eat almonds, and i like all legumes. I love black bean and lentil soup. I found these vegan burgers at Whole Foods which are great! They have no sugar grams and i think 8 carbs, plus 14 grams of protein. But, they only have 95 calories.

Thanks for writing me back. Since im a girl, they always say you can never be too thin. Well, im getting to that point.

But, its always more fun trying to gain weight than lose it. I just wish i could order a pizza and have a couple of glasses of wine and pack on some pounds like that.

Good luck to you.

Jordan

Thanks everyone for your replies and discussion.

Chainsaw, I do not know if I have Bart. In fact, I need to do some research on Bart. I do see that you are on Rifampin, is that for Bart? When I finish my Flagyl/Biaxin combo in about a month, my next steps are to take Ceftin, and then next is Rifampin. I Believe (and someone please correct me if I am wrong) that Dr. C. doesn't really test for all coinfections, he just treats his patients as if they do have them. If someone can expand on this, please do.

I'm off to research Bartonella, thanks again for your help and replies,

James

Hey blacktop,I do believe anorexia and weight loss are symptoms of bartonella.I do know restlessness is and I have that symptom.Exhausted but a restless feeling.I think this changes your metablosim and your body is burning off more fuel than you can take in,Lord knows I still eat alot.ON the rifampin my body seems to be calming down and if I gain weight than I will surely suspect the bart for the weight loss.Do you have restlessness or insomnia? Two years of lyme antibiotics and no improvement or weight gain for me so we will see if I get back to normal weight on the rifampin. The bart. tests are horrible, out of a dozen tests only two came back with a flag(abnormal).

Chainsaw,

I DID used to have sleeping problems. Not so much insomnia in the last few years, but definitely a "never rested" feeling. Have you ever had your hormones tested??? I did the 24 hour endocrine panel, which was of course abnormal. Dr. C. then started me on cortef (which I believe is hydrocortisone) and testosterone cream. I am still ramping up the testosterone, and have felt no significant difference, but it's action may be subtle, I'm not sure. But the Cortef has helped my sleeping AMAZINGLY! I have gone from waking up every time the girlfriend rolls over in bed to sleeping through her getting up and going to work. I feel way more rested than I used to. I think I read somewhere in a search on this site that Cortisol is a natural steroid that your body produces that helps you deal with stress. Therefore when your body does not produce it, or does not produce enough, then your body "burns up" everything you put into it in an effort to deal with everyday stress. But again, I have not slept so well in years and I believe that I have had lyme for 10-15 yrs). So let me know if you have been tested, it is a fairly expensive test, but it is very beneficial, and well worth sleeping well.

James
