How long can one be on Bicillin? I have been taking weekly shots (two times 1.2 mln units) for 4 months now and I tell you, it's getting old. My muscle mass in the ass is already very limited, so it REALLY hurts for about 3 days.

I take my shots on Friday afternoon -> Saturday night sucks with the herx and most of Sunday sucks as well. It just takes a lot out of you.

Hey, I am just venting my frustration. How long have you guys been on Bicillin? Has anybody experienced a slight fewer of the Bicillin (100.4 - 101)?

Ciao,

Tim

Tim,
You probably won't like my answer but it's one and a half years and counting. My first several months were pretty much a constant herx. After about three or four months I started having flashes of normality, like walking along and suddenly realizing that nothing hurt. The improvement has been gradual but steady. I still herx episodically, like today, but in general I feel good.
An herbal tea with dandelion root as its major ingredient (Detox Tea - Yogi Tea Company) has helped reduce the herx symptoms, especially vertigo. Over time, my butt seems to have gotten used to the shots becauwe they only cause several hours of mild soreness.
From my observations, the outcomes with Bicillin are good enough for me to be ok with taking it indefinitely, which my doctoer seems to think is fine. I'm actually scared to go off of it.

Tim,

I was on Bicillin for 9 months. I was only taking one shot a week of the 1.2 million units. It did a world of good for me and got me out of a wheel chair and walking again. I did have herxs but never a fever.

Tim,

Do I understand you correctly that you take two 1.2 MU shots on Friday (ie. at the same time)? It would probably be easier on you, herx-wise to spread them out over the week, say Tuesday and Friday. I've NEVER taken 2.4 MU at once and imagine it would have been pretty bad.

yep, I am taking two shots st the same time. When I started, the herxes were amazingly tough. Now - after 4 months - they are managable. I take my shots Friday afternoon and the herx starts late Saturday afternoon. Saturday night sucks, sometimes no sleep, and Sunday sucks until Sunday afternoon. It just takes a lot out of you.

I can't say I am looking forward to doing this for another 6 months or more... It does seem to help though

Yes, I do know what your feeling. I did the Bicillin shots for 8 weeks, one shot a week.

That is all that I could handle. The shot really did a number on my butt and hip muscles. Very painful to the hip muscle, especially while sleeping, rolling around in the bed, sitting, and getting up in the mornings. It has taken me 6 weeks for my butt and hip muscles to heal, and I have finally noticed that the pain has gone away.

As the old citcom goes, "8 Is Enough" for me.

David, I just bought the tea. Do you drink it all the time or only when you herx?

Tim, usually I have used the tea when I have herx symptoms. However, I know of no reason not to drink some every day and may start doing that. It's has a pretty dramatic effect on my herx symptoms, usually within an hour. Good luck and let me know what you think.
By the way, have you considered using 1% Lidocaine with the Bicillin. There's an abstract somewhere that in a study in Israel it dramatically reduced the discomfor children reported. In most of the world, this medicine is sold as a dry powder that is mixed with sterile water on site. Therefore, substituting Lidocaine is simple. If your shots come in a single standard syringe, the nurse could draw some Lidocain in or, if the syringe is to samll, the Bicillin could be transfered to a larger syringe and then som Lidocaine could be drawn in, also.
Just a thought.
David

I don't know about lidocaine and I don't think I want to mess with transferring the Bicillin. The Bicilling comes in these tubes with a needle and it's actually my wife who is giving me the shots. She's not a nurse but she does a good job.

Tim,
It's just that you are describing pretty significant discomfort. Transfering the Bicillin to a standard syringe could be intimidating for someone not used to dealing with this kind of stuff. Really though, it would be pretty simple. The Bicillin could simply be injected into the syringe through the opening, with the needle removed, of course.
Anyway, I hope the tea helps with herxes and that the shots start bothering you less.

David,

How much of the detox tea do you take per (herx) day? One cup, two cups . . . ? And do you make it per package suggestions?

David, have you ever done any of the cyst-form treatments? Flagyl, tinidazole, plaquenil?

Generally, I drink one cup of tea per day when herxing. However, I have had two on particularly bad days. I've not used a cyst buster, mainly because I've been concerned that the herxes would interfere with stuff I have to do. Maybe this winter.
