Hi folks :=)
After 14 years of having babesia...I finally tested positive on the Bowen test. All this time I've never been treated for it. I have been treated tho for lyme. My question is about bruising. Since I've been ill...I have had those funny round red bruises. They would come in clumps and only periodically...like in a cycle.
Now that I'm being treated with artemsisin and malarone....along with doxy and Biaxin...I am experiencing what I think is massive brusing...the small round ones and big huge ones that don't seem to be going away. I'm not slamming into things or falling down, etc.
My question to you is....someone else said this to me.....can being treated for babesia cause like a herxheimer of bruising for months? Would love to hear the experiences of others. Thanks so much

Well this is interesting....I've been bruising very badly for the past 2 weeks. I hit myself very badly on the corner of cabinet 2 days ago and no bruise. My regular doc says it could be a Vit. C deficiency. My LLMD says it could be C (since I have severe GI problems and haven't been eating much) but is also retesting me for Babesia. I guess it could be either one for me.....

It's funny you wrote this. I was diagnosed with Babesia seven years ago and I had gone into "remission" if there is one, for a few years and just last year my titers went up well after starting treatment for a few months I started bruising very easily, if i was joking around and my boyfriend we bump into me I'd instantly have a bruise or I'd wake up with them and have no idea where they came from, but yesterday I stamed my ankle on my desk and no bruise. I thought I was going crazy - good to know I'm not the only one bruising and it helps clear up the issue a bit.

Same with me!!! You hit yorself somewhere and it doesn't bruise and then the you have no idea where the bruises you did get...came from... Someone who has a support group told me that many who are being treated for babesia get bruising worse than they did before. I've been on treatment for about 4 months ...so you would think the bruising would dwindle by now. Maybe because I've had it for so many years?
I had a spinal tap done on Friday just about waist level. Now about 3 inches below the spot are 3 round bruises, each about size of dime, at least they look like bruises. They could be EM rash, but hey I can't twist and bend my neck around and get close to see what they really look. Asking my kids, they just say oh it's nothing.
I used to get tons of mysterious bruises, especially when on abx, now only a few. I start ketek and flagyl in a few weeks. I know I am getting, but sure confuses me when I see bruises and yet know there is no way I could bruise myself in my sleep, b/c they weren't there before I went to bed.
Take care,
Corinne

If you're bruising very easily it's probably not a good idea to take aspirin or any other meds that interfere with clotting. Mention it to your LLMD.

Morning all-
My mate is being treated for lyme and babs and suddenly started buising badly.
I read something about a vit K dificiency here. Sure enough when I looked on the net long term abx use prevents the good flora in the intestinal tract from making vit K. It also comes from green veggies, which he doesn't eat enough of.
He started taking vit K and a probiotic blend that is supposed to work better last week.

Hi Margie I don't know about a herx causing bruising but I think it is an effect of vasculitis caused by the Babesia. i had this symptom which was worst when the infection was bad...Mepron has alleviated it.
