I've tried Advil, Tylenol,, and even a prescription pain killer that I had lying around for backup.
NOTHING WORKS on these headaches!

Any non-medication tips for getting rid of them? They've become a daily nuisance and I can't even see straight no less work through it. I just want to lie down and pull the covers over my head!

I can't say anything for non-medication, but I can say that since my doctor put me on topomax (to prevent the migraines) every night I don't get the headaches nearly as often. When I do, I take axert (for when I actually have the migraines) and almost every time it kicks it out. Before I was taking these I was getting them daily and so bad I couldn't function.

Hey Jessie. I use Diamox to help with the brain inflamation.I also must take a migraine med.like Maxalt.I take the Maxalt when I feel the pressure developing and it helps tremendously! Again, sometimes the meds.work pretty fast and I can't keep ahead so ice packs, sunglasses and dark room!! Hang in there,I know these are bad(the headaches). My kids laugh...I wear my sunglasses around the house..they know when to chill!!!!

artbyjessie,

Jake (18) and Jordan (13) have had a headache for the past 5 years.

They have tried many meds and nothing helps much.

Jake does take Fioricet daily to take the edge off the pain.

Jordan started Ultram yesterday and it seems to be helping him.

Artbyjess:

Hi. Sorry to hear about your headaches.

I know some prescription painkillers make headaches worse. Im taking vicoprofen right now for tooth pain and i swear, sometimes i get a headache from it.

Does it feel like sinus pressure? Tylenol sinus is a miracle drug for me.

Also, i think someone else said this, putting moist heat is always soothing. I have even used something "cold" on my forhead which makes it feel better.

Take care,

Jordan

Thanks for the responses everyone :-)
I tried Excedrin Migraine the other day and it worked for a whopping 3hrs but at least I was about to get out for a bit w/out the blasting headache!

I have tried moist heat, cold compresses, you name it - never an RX though.
I will ask the good ol LLMD next visit to try some samples :-)

Jessie

YOU'RE RIGHT THEY ARE BAD. MINE FELT LIKE TENSION HEADACHES AT FIRST, THEN MIGRAINES. I FEEL PRESSURE BEHIND MY RIGHT EYE AND I HEAD FOR THE MAXALT. THE MIGRAINE IS GONE IN ABOUT 15 MIN. I HAVEN'T FOUND ANYTHING FOR JUST A REGULAR HEADACHE THAT WORKS. I DID USE XANAX FOR ONE OF THOSE HEADACHES AND IT HELPED. IT WAS MY LAST TABLET. NOW I HAVE CLUSTER MIGRAINES. I USE MAXALT.

Depends on what type of headache. Typically, if I have a headache that tylenol or advil would help, I don't take anything.

Those type of headaches are a breeze compared to the ones I take Rx meds for:

Migraines: Phenergan + Imitrex nasal spray

if it doesn't go away within an hour, I then take one Demerol tablet.

if it doesn't go away within a certain amount of time, and I can't fall asleep, I try to make it to the shower, sit in the shower, and let the warm water run on my head for 30 to 45 minutes until I feel sleepy. Then I try to sleep (not in the shower).

Tension headaches (at base of skull): Midrin Caps

Cluster/combination headaches: only relief is from Toradol injection and then, if it persists, the shower routine.

A prescriptin drug that works for me is Ultracet. I think it's basically an extra strength tylenol. I won't say it get's rid of the headaches completely, but they make them bearable enough so that i don't have the urge to kill anyone! Good luck, hope you feel better.

For my migraines I was taking Vicodin and sleeping. Now I've starting taking naperxon (Aleve) If that doesn't help I use imitrex and try to go to sleep. If I can't sleep I usually have to sit in a room with no light and noise and have someone rub my head and back until I fall asleep.

hey artbyjessie,
I know exactly what you saying. I have a chronic head pain with migraine. When I was working, Excedrin Migraine worked to get me thru the day. However, by the end of the day, it would make my head pain worse. I have tried a lot of different meds. I am on Zonegran right now to see if it helps the head pain. Has not worked yet. Right now, the only things that works is ICE.
Have you tried following a migraine diet?
Take Care,
blueocean

My daughter tried all kinds of drugs for her chronic daily headache including anticonvulsants (Topamax, Neurontin), anti-inflammatories (naproxen, Vioxx), calcium channel blockers, muscle relaxants, and pain relievers. Best success for chronic pain with Elavil (amitryptiline) and, later, an SSRI like zoloft (low dose). For pain crisis with her headache, codeine and percocet didn't help as much as Butalbital (w/caffeine, fioricet, acetominophen I think). There's a good headache site at MGH neurology.

The only thing that helped my daughter's constant headache with Lyme was acupuncture. It doesn't help everybody, but if you can, give it a try.

I know this sounds to easy to be true but....

Try a couple of advils with a strong cup or two of coffee,,,it acts as a vasodialater and just may relieve your migraines like topomax(topiromate) which I had in thru the va...

Hey what have you got to lose?
