I just started massive dose of penicillin today, am waiting for herx. Has anybody ever had this treatment? How long did it take for Herz to show up? I did notice that bad brain fog went away about 9 hours after shot. Dr. C is working with my Michigan doctor on this. I had asthma attack about two weeks ago and had to go on steroids, it gave me the worse herx ever, Lasted for over 10 days and was severe. I will need shots every week for 6-8 weeks. I cannot go to sleep because of pain in butt. The nurse told me to walk afterwards, which I did, but it started to get worse after I laid down to go to sleep. Any help would be appreciated. Hello sickloflyme,

Not sure, how much penn. you are recieving?

I started on oral form of amoxicillin 3000mg daily about 16 days ago.
I believe my brain fog went away that day too. Also I do not know if it is a coincidence or what, but started having more (mild) throbbing pains all over more often.

Some herx as early as one day, some it takes longer. I am waiting to see how my FOURTH week is going to be. That seems to be the "biggy" for many here.

However, everyone is different and their bodies react differently.

I too (along with my mom, 7yr old, and 13mth old) am going to see the wonderful Dr.C at the end of Aug.

Is there ANYTHING else you can take for an asthma attack?
I understand steroids are one of the worse things that you could put into your body dealing with lyme.

Good Luck! Amanda

The above lady is correct.

It seems you're going to have a rough time of it with the asthma and all.
I won't let anyone come near me with any kind of steroid. The way I understand steroids(for arthritis anyway) is that they slow down the immune system so your own body(immune system) will stop working and this has got to be no good at all for anyone with lyme disease.
Early on I would herx whenever I was given even nonsteroidal antiinflamatories. I can't imagine the sort of problems you are going to encounter. I hope there is someone on this board that can help you.
Perhaps the steroids for asthma are not the kind that make your lyme worse...but from the sound of it it is. Perhaps temporary use of the steroids for your asthmatic condition is ok to take....but someone other than my uneducated butt should be able to tell you.

As far as the massive dose of penicillin goes...hey I tried I think about a month and a half of that and while it had some affect on me it was stopped too soon I think to have any lasting effect. It was hard to take what with getting a shot in the butt twice a week for a month and a half...soreness...I think I remember someone writting something on this board about how to alleviate the bumpy sore spot the shot gives you...hope you get some good advice....good luck

the zman

I started on 4000 mg of amoxy per day and it did ABSOLUTE wonders for me. Are you on oral amoxy or bicillin shots?

I have asthma also. There is a product called serevent that you can use to PREVENT attacks ( but it doesnt work at all once you have one) and it doesnt have steroids in it.

Good luck to you

Hey little palm tree...

How are ya swaying these days?

You don't sound like a happy camper... but if someone poked me in MY butt with needles.. I think I would feel the same.

I did pennicillin. I did massive doses... and what they said it was... was enough to kick down an elephant! But, I did them IV.. NOT as a shot in the butt.

NICE thing about the pennicillin...

NO HERX and I felt REAL good for having done it. REAL GOOD!

I had been basically ON THE FLOOR for months.. and was put in the duck motel.

For lack of something better.. and this was about 15 years ago.. they put me on IV penn.

Within days I went from bed bound to skipping thru the hallways carrying my attached IV pole.

My thought is... there are other nasties out there we don't even know about. PLUS.. why can't we get a staff or strep infection from a tick when we get them from the dirt?

Sooooooooo... bend over and feel better soon!

Lettuce no how you are doing... ok?

I did 7gms of oral Amoxi but I could crack the fog in my head. Wanted to do Bicillin but LLMD wasn't keen on it.

Re: the steroids. LLMD claimed they'll give em for "overactive immune system" but no thanks. Singulair got my asthma under control after years of Albuterol etc. My allergist said my asthma was allergy induced.
