Okay, this is odd. (read on about stomach problems from doxy) I've been on doxy about a year for Lyme (feeling nearly completely normal in June) but recently started taking more doxy, since I got reinfected (got bit again by ticks in June, then old symptoms reappeared- believe it or not, reinfection can happen- BEWARE- especially if you live out in the country, like we do, with high deer, mice, and tick populations). Recently, I was visiting Dr. C, and needed more doxy, right there in town, so I had to use the Walgreens pharm. just down the street from Dr. C's office. Well, up to this point, I had always taken doxycycline hyclate, the orange tablets, which are equivalent to 100mg doxycycline. And every time I take 2 of these tabs at a time, I had better eat a good substantial meal, both having food before and after taking the tabs, or I get wicked bad nauseousness. Well, anyway, Walgreens didn't give me the orange tabs. Instead, they gave me a big bottle of doxycycline 100mg capsules, big, blue capsules (and, actually, easy to swallow). So, I've been taking these for the past three days. This is what I've noticed: 1. Less stomach pain/nauseousness (even none at all), even after taking two capsules at a time. 2. BUT, these capsules don't seem to be working as well as the tabs- I'm not sure if it's psychological, but I don't think so. Whereas taking 400-500mg/day of tablet doxy I've had virtually no symptoms (I caught the disease early this time, so I've had basically no herxing, just great improvements on the doxy), with the capsules, I've noticed some mild symptoms coming back, even with the same 400-500mg/day amount in capsule doxy.
Anyone else experienced this??? Shouldn't the capsules work as well as the tablets (you would think!)? I'm probably gonna ask Dr. C to reorder my prescription, so I can get the tabs of doxy at my regular pharmacy. Thankx to anyone with info.

Doxy capsules work for me at 200mgms twice a day with food.

Al though you will see I was only recently registered, I was one of the first members when the site was started. I could not get back on for over a year, my user name and password being rejected. Mathias, checked online- Doryx appears to come in a capsule, but even after carefully examining the capsules I have, can't seem to determine from either markings on the capsule or labeling on the bottle whether the particular capsules I have are Doryx (no words whatsoever come close to "Doryx" on the label), so... But you would think Doryx would work better, if it's the original, not generic. Go figure.

But have you ever taken doxycycline hyclate tablets, so as compare to the doxy capsules? I guess that's the only way to know for certain, which one appears to work better- hey, I would have never wondered about the difference if Walgreens hadn't prescribed me something different.

Doxy hyc capsules (the blue capsule marked 2985) make me horrendously ill if I don't eat a substantial amountat the same time. I dreaded taking them.
My LLMD prescribed doryx ec capsules by Warner (med blue/orange w/doryx marked on side) after I told him of how ill the other ones made me.
I can't compare the efficacy between the two because I was under medicated while on generic. I now have biaxin in my regimen.
