I am very desperate to find out if there is a treatment protocol for a 2 and a half year old boy that possibly has Lyme? Thanks in advance for your replies. [email protected]Posts: 6 | From Boone,North Carolina, USA | Registered: Aug 2004

Hey there in North Carolina...
Got grits?
Welcome to Lyme Net.
Here is a link that may help you.
Please check out Dr. Burrascano's Treatment Guidelines.
The BEST doctor in the world for treating children with Lyme is Dr. Jones in CT.
If this were my child.. I would crawl if I had to to get them there to see him.
He has treated THOUSANDS of Lyme children.. and has had great success.
We normally don't post doctors names without their permission.. but he does not want to see ANY child go without help and allows us to post his information directly.

Hi, My 2 1/2 year old daughter had a bullseye rash and is being treated for Lyme. She is taking amoxicillian and Zithromicin. Others will respond with lots of good information.
Others will be along with informations for you. Listen to them, they were very helpful to me and read the information in the links they send. It may be overwhelming at first, but will help you understand and make better medical decisions concerning your child.
Find an LLMD (Lyme Literate Doctor)by going to the Seeking A Doctor discussion group and/or by checking in the Support Groups link.
You can find Dr Burrascano's Treatment Guidelines at: www.ilads.org/burrascano_1102.htm Print a copy. It's 32 pages of excellent info. pages 16-18: Antibiotics - recommended dose & length of treatment
At the left, click Lyme Disease Association, Inc & find "The ABCs of Lyme Disease". Print a copy or contact LDA & ask them to mail a copy of "ABCs" and "Lyme{R}Primer" brochures to you. Both are excellent.

I am taking my 3 children (10 months, 3 and 5) to Dr. Charles Crist in Missouri. He is an absolutely incrediable doctor!
My pediatrician consulted Dr. Jones last week with western blot results and apparently he did not think my two youngest were bad enough to treat.
Just how bad does it have to be???
I was not impressed!
Dr. C saw the results and said they were signifigant so I am sticking with him. He is doing great with the rest of my lymie family!
Others have had wonderful experiences with Dr. J so perhaps consult both doctors to see which works best for you. From what I have heard these two are the best available!
These little ones need to be treated before they become seriously ill. Don't wait until it is too late.
We almost lost our oldest son to an "unknown" infection on his third birthday. He spent two weeks in the hospital on oxygen and iv too weak to even sit up on his own.
I don't ever want to go through that nightmare again!
Go where ever you need to and do what ever you have to, to ensure that this little guy gets the treatment he needs!
And don't rely too much on testing. The tests for this disease are not very reliable.
We will be praying for you both!

WELCOME To LYMENET
Here's more goodys! A typical response to newcomers.
Hi and WELCOME! Get a LLMD or at least Dr that is willing to learn about lyme. Borrelia Burgdorferi is a clinical diagnosis, based on symptoms and on your response to treatment. Good Luck, bumpy road ahead.
Post for a LLMD inSeeking a Doctor. Ps remember I am not a Dr, just a fellow sufferer.
No you don't always see a bite and if there's no bullseye the only way your going to be able to tell is (symptoms) and (((Maybe))) WB or lyme dot blot 3 day urine banged with abx's to free your antigens up for the test. See this ( . )thats the size of the larva stage tick... Next nymph size... ( * ) Next is adult ( o ) to ( 0 ) Pretty small????? HUH

Hi cbb, Thanks for asking... My daughter seems to be doing ok. Every couple of weeks she has a fever, headache, stomach ache and chills for a couple of days and then it goes away. In between she seems like herself again, although she does seem to get tired easier.
She has an appoint with Dr. J in October and I spoke with him over the phone last week and his office sent out kits to test her for Lyme and co-infections.
I'm worried about sending up a red flag with the insurance company if we do the testing. I fear they won't pay for the tests and if the Lyme test comes back "negative" that they won't continue paying for her meds.
I know she has Lyme because she had the rash and I'm worried that she may have a co-infection as well.
It's a shame that we not only have to worry about the disease and our children, but also worry about insurance issues as well.
I've decided to get tested as well because I'm nursing my 5mos old.

Val, I'm sure the others join me in saying we appreciate your 'thank-you' for the info.
But I have to admit - I'm interested in the child's well-being, so I'm wondering what you decided to do.
How serious are his symptoms?
DJP, thanks for the update. Dealing with Tick-Borne Diseases (TBDs) is such a complex issue!!! So glad you're following through on all this.
Who will you see about your Lyme testing? You probably don't need reminding, but be sure the lab is one of the best for TBDs. Ex: IGeneX in Calif www.igenex.com Med Diag Lab in NJ www.mdlab.com
I also think Bowen Research Lab in Florida is doing a great job. www.bowen.org (They found my Babesiosis when other labs had negative test results.)
