Just wondering if anyone who has in the past had problems like I have with chronic recurring sore throats, and LITERALLY SORES in throat, swollen glands and postnasal drip has found it returned with Lyme/Babs treatment when it had been dormant for quite a while?
This what's happening to me. For the last 2 weeks these old problems are back and they've been gone at least 2 years. I used to think it was a virus, then I thought an allergy to something, now I don't know if it's related to Lyme and why it's decided to come back now when I'm on antibiotics.
Apart from the discomfort of having a great big sore at the back of my throat, swollen glands and post nasal drip it also just makies me feel extra yuk generally.
I know that old sx can return with abx treatment, but I didn't expert this sort of thing, I expected more of the fevers, muscle ache type stuff and neuro stuff.

Hi there, Do you feel congested...or does your head feel "full" instead?
I had a lot of post "nasal" drainage...but never felt congested exactly...but I had severe head pressure...especially in the morning...I would have to slowly prop my head up to let my head drain...and it drained down my throat...(and in turn from all the drainage I got sore throats)
My interpretation was that it felt like it was my actual brain/or spinal fluid draining down my throat or something like that...It never felt like mucous/nasal drainage to me...
I had this prior to treatment, as well as during herxes etc...so maybe it comes from some sort of inflammatory response in our brains...?? I have had to be on meds to "drain the pressure" from my head a few times, so we must get fluid build up in our brains...and it's got to drain off somewhere, right?
Is you experience anything like this?

Hi DLL,
I seem to get sores in my throat and swollen glands when my Epstein-Barr flares up.
I have pretty constant post-nasal drip and two things work for me. Both are homeopathics.
Hydrastis canadensis, 12C or 30C, works on the congestion during the day.
Rumex crispus is like a magic pill for when you're lying down and the drainage is tickling or searing your throat so badly you can't sleep. I mean this stuff works in less than 5 minutes (on me).
The interesting thing is that these two remedies work even though I'm on abx, and allopathic meds (the stuff the regular docs and LLMDs give us) are supposed to antidote homeopathics. But I find they work anyway.

Hi Kira,
I don't feel congested, I guess I feel more "full" like you described. I never thought of it feeling like my brain or spinal fluid was draining out. But, there is a constant drain of "something". It's not like I can even cough it up or spit it out. I also sneeze a lot, and this was how it all started up again a couple of weeks ago with sneezing first....(I definitely don't have a cold).
More like a slow dripping tap behind my nose - so slow there's not anything to spit out or anything.
But, obviously the slow leak is irritating my throat something rotten, which I guesses causes sores. This time there is only one sore.
I have had periods (months at a time) when I had constant multiple sores and skin peeling away at back of throat and sometimes from cheeks and gums also. No doctor could ever figure out what it was. I still don't know, but wonder if it's Lyme or co-infection related and perhaps the abx has reactivated whatever it is.
It also makes my ears hurt a bit and they feel inflamed also. Plus another problem I've had for several years - madly ITCHY ear canals, which also feel like they've got "post-nasal" drip (they feel like they're wet inside, starting around 4am daily - are back now. I wake myself up from trying to scratch the insides of my ears (impossible to do).
Also the last couple of mornings, sort of like you described, my head feels like there's a lot of pressure inside, especially at the top of my head - yesterday I was very dizzy in the morning which I put down to perhaps fluid in my ears or something. It really felt like I had a swollen brain.
Kira, when you get this pressure do you ever also experience sharp quick pains in your head? This is another symptom I haven't had for a while, and in the last few days it's back. Especially at night. Last night just as I was dropping off to sleep I was awakened by this terrifying, very quick and sharp head pain which feels like it originates in the center of my head. It's over in a second. Do you think the throat/sinus/postnasal problems can cause this kind of head-pain (referred pain?).
I'm not glad you have similar problems, but I am glad that perhaps my very annoying and literally physically draining problem isn't unique to me.

It could be acid reflux due to the use of antibiotics. I've got a fire ball in my chest and throat thanks to long term antibiotic usage.

Hi Sue,
We must have been writing at the same time.
Thanks for that. I will see if I can get those remedies here. In the past when this has started up it can carry on for a couple of years before it goes again - I'd hate to get on that whole cycle again.
Interesting the homeopathics work just fine for you with abx. I've been to homeopaths who are adamant that one must not take abx, mint toothpaste, coffee, spices, garlic while on homeopathic remedies.
Generally I haven't had much luck with homeopaths - none cured my "CFS" - later to be found to be Lyme, of course.
BUT, one very interesting thing about these kinds of throat problems/sores and homeopathic remedies.
Back in '98 or around there I went through a long spell of these throat/sores/mouth soreness problems and general horrible run-down feeling (on top of usual fatigue, etc).
I went to a homeopath, and even though I didn't really have any faith in it, I was desperate. I didn't really know about healing crises, etc. either.
Well, I took the remedy and withing a day or two I had THIRTY-THREE SORES at the back of my throat and mouth. Those were ONLY the one's I could see and count. It was agony. Could not eat, could barely drink water. I called up this woman and screamed at her "what have you done to me bla bla bla". She said it was a good sign - and of course that's how I learned about a healing crises.
So, obviously that did not cure me, but after that nightmare, I did not have that problem again for about 3 years, and not as bad as before. Nor do I want it to back to it being chronic again.
I went again to this same woman when I got hives all over. She said she'd never seen hives like mine. They would appear on one side of my body in a particular kind of pattern, and within 10 minutes, the idential pattern/hive would appear on the opposite half of my body. Anyway, I THINK she gave me poison ivy for that and it also made the hives go quickly.
Sadly, she died very quickly of cancer (cervical I think). I guess she didn't go to the doctor at the first sign of illness, as apprently she went because she'd been feeling a bit tired and had a lump on her shoulder. They told her "you'll be dead in 3 weeks". She did live about 4 months though. She was very nice and I believe the best homeopath out of all the other supposedly highly reputed ones I've been to since. (I've given up on them now as none could get me better).

Hi DMC,
I'm sure in my own case it's not coming from below my throat, but above. But, I appreciate that heartburn can also irritate your throat.

DLL,
I'm sorry you've had bad experiences with homeopathics. The wrong one can do a number on you. I've had several "learning experiences" myself.
But when they work, they work well for me.
And yes, all of the things you mentioned are supposed to be avoided because they interfere with the action of the homeopathics, hence my expression of surprise that the two remedies I mentioned work anyway. I also drink coffee and use conventional toothpaste.
Yes, what you describe all sounds very familiar...I too would get the sharp head pains on and off...I called them lightening strikes!...and they almost took my breath away they were so sharp sometimes...Scary in the moment, but nothing serious ever came of it.
I think it comes from the head pressure...the build up of fluids or something. Not always, but at some points I could even feel the fluid in my head, shift and move around...As long as its draining though, I think that is good...
And I also had the annoying ear itch too...and feeling like my ears were plugged up...it always accompanied my head fullness...and drainage. Sometimes, at it's worst, I felt like I had some hearing loss even...like I was under water
I also had some dizziness(even when my ears were fine and just the head was "full")...I would always have to make sure I "drained my head enough" before getting out of bed or I might fall right over I was so dizzy some mornings...
Well, I wish I had suggestions of how to make this better...When my head pressure was at it's worst and it effected me cognitively too...I was given an Rx for Diamox...Its an anti-seizure med, but works also as a diuretic in the brain, and it would help me through the worst times...but getting at the source, pathogen treatment, overall is what is really needed...
At least you can know you are not alone and someone can relate to your experience....ME!
All my best, Kira

I have the lightening strikes again too, have ear infections right now and sinuses are swollen.
I keep thinking virus too,and when i was better this went away.
I am not sure what to think either.
HOpe you find some answers. I know valtrex has not helped this for me. I have tried it several times and it didn't work.
My ears are bad now and were never this bad before.

I've had an extremely sore throat as one of my symptoms with chronic lyme. Sometimes it's just an annoying one like something from post nasal drip. Other times is very painful and keeps me awake at night, etc... I was treated for Thrush and that seemed to make it go away temporariliy, so I think it's caused by Candida or yeast.

Hey I'm going to chime in with my 2cents worth as well. I too have been having these symptoms along with the parotid pain (like mumps) and still not been diagnosed. My brain feels like it is being blown through my ear holes. I thought maybe it was mastoiditis or something like that. Even morphine just keeps the pain to a dull roar.
However, this is interesting... I have had lymph drainage work done and I get that fluid running like a river down the back of my throat too (I can just push on the back of my head and that happens when I have that headpressure going on).
The massage therapist told me that it was lymph congestion. When I go and get my "head squeezed" the fluid is drained off of my head, face, sinuses and the intense ear pressure goes away.
This is usually okay for about 2 days, and then, the pressure builds back up. Unfortunately, I can't afford to go to a massage therapist every few days to have this drainage work done.
I've told the doctors about this, and they just look at me like I'm nuts.
But, I think lymph definitely has something to do with the head pressure and pain in ears. When my head feels like a pressure cooker, I just feel the need to squeeze my head all over and I can get that drainage happening but not as good as the therapist. I think there is something to this.
I too get the itchy ear canals as well. I heard someplace that was a symptom of candida. I honestly don't know.
The sore throat is interesting because I just asked my llmd to test me for Epstein Barr and for bartonella because of my extreme facial pain. Both the EBV(IgM) & Bartonella titres were high. My throat has been super sore lately and swollen glands (more than usual). Hmmm.
I didn't know that EBV was a recurring thing. In fact, I didn't even know I had it until I just had a bunch of blood work done.
Sleepy.

Sometimes it seems to me that so many symptoms of lyme disease can easily be attributed to something else....
But I see that I am not alone...itchy ears and red throat have been part of my life for so long and I had been blaming it on allergies now I can add it to my list of lyme symptoms...
Thank you I thought I was the only one

Glad to have read this post. I too have recently and now have the feeling like I have water in my head; great to see I am not alone with this. Ketek and Ceftin are the new meds I am taking. All my bad brain symptoms are back, so hoping it is a herx ;who knows. A lot of brain pressure; vice like head pains;neck pains. etc
