I just started Valtrex today to help get my viral loads down and I herd it may help with my stiffnes/spasticity.( main symptom)Im still doing abx along with it.First day on it and I feel alful. So sleepy tired and very weak (4gm a day)is this like a lyme herx in that this is common and a good sign? I sure hope so,and if others felt bad at first how long did it take wile on it till you started to feel better on it? Terri

Hi Terri,

I wish I had an answer. I take Valtrex to suppress Herpes outbreaks, but have not had your bad experiences with it.

How long have you been on the abx? Is there a chance it's due to them and not the Valtrex? Have you changed dosage or type recently?

I'd definitely check with the prescribing doctor to see what might be up.

Really hope you feel better soon!

Terri, my daughter had herx like symptoms with only 2 grams..Her psych said 2 G were too strong for her..We finally built up to a G and a half a day, and she could tolerate that dose.

She is about 100 lbs wet, and has chemical sensitivities so we always have trouble going to the max.

Thanks for your replys,To circus penut- yes I resently started back on ceftin around the same time so I stoped taking that too see if any difference,I did feel somewhat better and I also went down in dose like lymemom talked about,Im a light weight too and thought it would also help but after all of that I still feel like crap'I just think im going to call it quits with the valtrex.I'm a recently single mom and I need all the energy I can get.

One intresting tid bit-I have lost weight throughout the year that I've been treating the lyme, since started on the valtrex 5 days ago I bet I put on 4 lds without trying.Terri

my doc put me on valtrex when i developed shingles. he said it was from the stress of dealing with lyme/fibro.also my immune system is compromised.. the valtrex helped heal the shingles outbreak.also shingles is a cousin of chicken pox.you should stay away from folks who never had chicken pox.they will get them.watch out for babies with this. hope this helps....gary
