I am still awaiting Igenex results and my first appt with the LLMD but am wondering what you all think. Is it possible that I could have gotten Lyme from my Dad?

He has never been tested but has had several sx since before I was born. I've been sick almost since birth. My mom doesn't have any sx though.

Just curious. If I turn up pos (or am dx'ed by LLMD on symptoms), my mom wants him to be tested.

Anyway, just curious about what you all think.

Hi There,

I think yes..... I mean if your dad was carrying lyme before you were born, he could have passed it along to your mother, who maybe never showed any symptoms (some people never get sick)... and then she could have passed it to you in utero.... I'm sure others will agree with me... it happens ALL the time. Hang in there! Steph

If the Mom doesn't have Lyme, then I don't think it's likely.
Lyme can be passed from mother to baby in utero or by nursing.
I don't believe your Dad could have passed Lyme directly to you.

BUT -
You've lived in the same environment, so in my opinion, that would increase the odds that you both had tick bites that transmitted the disease.
When a family lives in an endemic area, it's possible for every one to get Lyme independently.

In my family, my father, my grandson, & I all have Lyme, but the cases were not connected in any way.
We live near Fort Jackson in Columbia.
A study done about 1992 found that our county (Richland) & surrounding counties are at high risk for Lyme & Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, therefore, our family members are at high risk for the disease.

I think it is possible since there are cases (at least according to Dr. J) that were from invetro fertilization. If that is the case then is it from the egg? Is it from the sperm? Or both?

I agree with BOTH suggestions.

My daughters have Lyme..I have Lyme...and their Mother...my wife...shows no overwhelming symptoms.

I believe that she did contract it from me and passed it on to the kids.

I"ve become convinced that Lyme is transmitted sexually. Most likely you got it through your mother who has it but doesn't show symptoms.

Only way to know is to have her get tested=).

No one may agree with me on this, but I think lyme rashes are a source of transmission. Also, when very ill, the skin can ooze a oilier type secretion and I think this is contagious too. But that's just me and I have no studies backing it up.
