Just curious if anyone out there has some info on a connection between Lyme and Diabetes. My mother , who has not controlled her Lyme, has just been diagnosed with Diabetes 2. I can't help think her glucose levels are off because of the Lyme. If anyone has any experience in this area please let me know. Thanks.

Hides,

I was dx type 2 diabetes 1-2-04; and dx w/late stage lyme 7-12-04! What a year.

I'm on diet & exercise only. I had really been working on trying to walk as much as possible but with heal spurs, it's extremely painful. This week I've gained back 5 lbs...darn!

My diabetes educator still wants me to walk 30 minutes continuously although I told her it's TOO PAINFUL.

My LLMD told us last time that I won't be able to lose weight...maintain it w/the lyme abx I was on.

My BS go higher during the day. Benicar has brought it down for mornings. I have to eat during the night time too...get sick to my stomach if I don't.

Beverly, thanks for the links; I read them all. Best wishes to all. Betty G., Iowa

Hi,

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes four years ago prior to being will with Lyme. There is no doubt that it is more difficult keeping my glucose levels down while being ill. However, I do not have any insight as to whether Lyme can cause one to become diabetic. I guess it is possible that your Mom may have been either undiagnosed prior to being ill with Lyme and it was discovered when she was being treated for Lyme or perhaps she was "borderline" and being ill and perhaps more inactive resulted in her glucose levels rising out of the "normal" range.

Sorry that I couldn't be of more help.

Best Wishes,
Debbie
