I tested neg for babesia several months ago, but since reg. lyme abx werent working, LLMD decided to treat me for it anyway. On a combo of Mepron and Zith with artemisinin (Spelling?) It has been 8 days and I feel awful today. Seemed to start last night: achy, achy, achy in muscles and joints; pronouncement of existing pain in neck, shoulder and arm.
The only other time I herxed was on IV Rocephin a year ago, and at the time I didnt know it was a herx (felt awful and got hives).
I am pretty convinced that this is a herx...I guess.

I read here that many people have herxes on the 4 day of mepron, but I didnt. In fact I havent felt much of anything since I started it last friday...Anything new anyway.

Doesnt seem to be doing much about the brain fog that's been coming back since I got off Biaxin/doryx.

Does this sound like a herx?

Actually, IMO, the hives are NOT from herxing, but, can be an accumlation of yeast or an actual allergic reaction to the drug itself or an interaction with another drug.

I got hives while on Rocephin and it was because Rocephin and Welbutrin do not mix together without problems, like hives, thrush.

A herx, as www.drcharlescrist puts it, is INTENSE LYme symptoms that you have been experiencing in the past and NEW ones that you've never experienced before.

For example, you said, achy, achy, achy in muscles and joints; pronouncement of existing pain in neck, shoulder and arm.

Which I believe was your herx reaction, but, not the hives...hives, usually occur with an allergic reaction.

I'm about to start my 4th bottle w/ zith and have noticed a little improvement.

I do know that on about the 7th to 10th day - I had some REALLY bad bad HORRIBLE fatigue and achy on the first bottle!

Since then, it cycles from bad to worse but, not like that first time.

Did you start slowly? I always do that so, I don't get whammed all at once and so I can tell which if any med is causing an "allergic" type reaction!

I'm not on "artemisinin (Spelling)" tho and haven't ever tried that one.

Good luck and I hope you get some relief from this combo.

Sherry

It does sound like you are herxing, hang in there.

Hopefully you wont get hives with the mepron/zith which you did with the rocephin!
