Has anyone ever had any swallowing problems-like feeling that you have a huge lump in your throat that hurts? Like something has moved out of place?

Yup, summer of 2002 I had that feeling for 2-3 months. Had a barium swallowing test and nothing showed up! I didn't feel sick then, but got sick Fall of 2003 and was diagnosed with lyme and Babesia March of '04. My LLMD thinks I may have had lyme for about 10 years. Since I've been treated I've not had that feeling come back.

Hi Jo,

At different times during this illness and treatment I've had swallowing problems.
The first was caused by cranial nerve involvement where I could not get food to go down...lost the ability to swallow. That resolved with treatment.

Later I had the very same problem you seem to be having. I could swallow okay but it was uncomfortable. Also had very dry skin, my fingernails broke easily and my hair was falling out. Like you, it felt as though I had a lump in my throat. My lyme doctor checked thyroid and sure enough, that was the problem. I have been taking Armour Thyroid ever since and have never had the problem again.

Can't say for sure if this could be your problem, but you should mention it to your doctor. Thyroid problems seem to go with lyme for some patients.

Good luck!

I had a coworker ask me if I had a sore throat almost every day. She noticed that I strained when swallowing. It doesn't hurt all the time, but it does sometimes. I do feel like there's a lump in my throat most of the time.

As a side note, that's a question my LLMD kept asking me on my first and second visits. "Do you get a lot of sore throats?" There must be a connection.

Yes, I've had that for quite awhile along with a pulling feeling in the top of my mouth. Finally went away, but now have pain in my throat but not when I swallow, just a constant feeling of pressure.
