Ive been dealing with Lyme since July. Treatment of 200mg a day since July as well. Ive made tremendous improvements. Sought out a LLMD and Im very pleased. What im worried about is these red hot ears in the afternoon. Its been happening ever since the beginning. Its doesnt happen every single day but it happens enough I will tell you that. If im rushing around after work and for a dressed up affair, I show up in nice clothes with a beat-red sweaty face. I read on this website (my second home) that other people have had this symptom, my question is WHEN THE HELL DOES IT STOP?? I know each and every one is different in how this disease affects us but this one thing is driving me nuts. I think im the only one riding home from work with my Air Conditioning on in the FALL. Anyone that has any thoughts I would greatly appreciate.

Chime, It went away gradually over the first year of fairly aggressive treatment. FOr me it was a late symptom. How long have you had this? 200 mg of what? David

I know how you feel. Some of my main symptoms were the hot, red face, ears burning, sunburn fever feeling.
My first attempt at treatment was 200 mg Doxy per day for several months and this did absolutely nothing.
My Dr. finally put me on IV Rocephin 2 grams per day with Flagyle and Ursidiol for 7 weeks. Insurance would not pay for any more additional Rocephin.
The Rocephin made the most significant improvement in my symptoms than any other medication. All of the above symptoms disappeared immediately.
I have been on oral Zithromax for almost a year now. Also over 6 months of Mepron too.
Rarely get the red hot face and ears. I still have other symptoms but since starting Mepron for Babesia, I feel like I am making steady progress. Feeling better and getting some of my life back.
I'm not recommending any type of treatment. Just sharing my experience. We all know that not everyone responds the same to certain meds. It sure has been helpful to read about the different treatment options here on Lymenet.

Are you taking any meds or supplements in the afternoon, within 2 hours of these symptoms?
Flushing can be an allergic reaction. If it isn't from a drug, keep a diary of what you eat, when you eat it, and when this symptom starts. There might be a connection.

Doxy can also increase sensitivity to sunlight exposure making your symptoms even worse. I know that it did for me. I felt like I had a real bad sunburn all the time. I really had to limit activities in the sun. This helped.
I have since read here on Lymenet that 200mg per day was not enough and probably just stirring things up even more. My doctor was too conservative at first. We then decided to go to an agressive treatment since I probably have had Lyme for about 10 years.

Just some thoughts, because I've been there - I remember telling duck after duck that my ears were on fire...
Is your blood pressure under control? Often the hot ears is from high b.p., and by the afternoon, your body is pretty much pooped (and that's when the hot ears used to hit me). If you don't own a bp cuff, next time it happens, go to a local drugstore with a machine, and take the test.
Ditto with Crime on the dosage of Doxy - it might not be enough to kill the keets. This also could be from Bart or Babesia, I believe.

Most of the time my B.P. was fine, yet once I got it taken at the doc. office after taking a bunch of Advil and it screwed my BP up royaly. I was also really hung over. I'll mention all of these things to my LLMD and see what he says. Thanks for all the help guys. chime

Really hung over!!???
Lyme and alcohol don't mix. Before I knew I had lyme I would have drinks on the weekends and be hung over for 3 days. I would get facial flushing that would look like I drank everyday.
Dr.B says alchol can cause relapse in lymies. I would avoid it at all costs. It is hard, but you get used to it, you'll no doubt feel better.
I'm not saying you are an alcholic, but we have less tolerance to it, and it will mess with the effectiveness of your abx, which many say isn't enough. Not to preach, maybe you know this already.
