Hello all..
Just wondering if this is a lyme problem or not. I am SSSSOOOO itchy - its unbelievable and it seems to happen at the same time each day and its happening more often. I don't see a rash although sometimes my neck gets a little red. I've tried benadryl & zyrtec and neither of them have any affect except for making me even MORE TIRED! If it is related to lyme or antibiotics - Why? Should I ask for a change of meds (Taking 500mg of ceftin twice/day) - Should I call my LLMD? I'm trying really hard not to be a pain to my dr. because her office staff always makes me feel like I'm an inconvenience - what would you do?

THANKS SO MUCH!

Hey itchy one...

I vote yes to calling the LLMD. Since you have tried several things to stop the itching and it hasn't worked.. that would be a good thing.

I have had the itchies too... and sometimes it was just before a full blown allergic reaction. Some times not. I wouldn't want to take chances.

Not that you skip baths.. but if you are releasing toxins through the skin by sweating.. be sure to shower and not let the toxins sit on the skin to be reabsorbed.

Hope you calm down some soon!

Oh.. after checking with the doctor.. you may want to check on a supplement called Querectin.

If you do a search here you will find information about it. It can help stop the itchies from a drug reaction in folks... and help reduce inflammation.

OK?

You said the itching happens at the same time each day -- what time of day ???

Chinese medicine believes that the liver meridian is active between 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. and then again between 1:00 - 3:00 a.m.

If the itching is worse during one of those time frames you may have a congested liver.

Bloodwork to check your liver enzymes might be needed. The doctor would need to order it.

Good luck,

Bea Seibert

Thanks for the input. I called my llmd this morning (with great hesitation) and explained about the itching & was told that she wanted me to stop the ceftin and to call on Monday and let her know how I'm feeling and she will phone a prescription in for me then. It's so darn frustrating - I have been feeling worse - more tired, very itchy, lots of pain and hope this doesn't set the treatment back. I believe that I have taken Ceftin before and didn't have a reaction but it was a much lower dose.
Again, thanks for the help - its always greatly appreciated!
Heather

Hi Heather,

I experienced this same problem last week for a few days, and I also take Ceftin. I had a lot of areas that were itchy, but my scalp and hands were the worse. At first I figured it was just dry skin due to the nice blustery cold weather we had in the midwest. However, I drenched my hands in lotion a zillion times a day, and while it helped, I was still itching like crazy.

Since I've been on Ceftin for a while, I didn't suspect an allergic reaction. Also, I just had my liver panel done right before the itching episode, and it was all clear.

Perhaps it represents some form of toxin die off....

Hope the itching gets better for you! I just wanted to let you know I can relate!

Take Care,
Jewl

I always reply to these itch posts because I have spent a good deal of time scratching and itching myself.

When I first got Lyme I itched like crazy on my back. Then several years later I itched on my forearms, wrists, hands, neck and scalp with assorted other itchies. Nothing but time has seemed to lessen the itching.

Now with my constant vigilence, supplements and Vicks vapo rub it has become bearable. The first thing I do when I get up in the morning is itch. Oh well, it could be worse!

I too have flakey dry itchy skin from antibiotics.Ive tried alot of things and finally found the cure for me.Take a bath and put plenty of baby oil in the water,no soap(OH the things a guy has to say on lymenet). You have to wash your hair ahead of times for obviouse reasons.Just damp dry and watch out, that tub will be slippery but man, relief,it works.Too hot water can dry your skin though so not too hot.I am so glad I figured this one out.

Hi,

I've been on Ceftin 500mg 2Xday for 4 weeks and was fine for about the first 3 weeks, then the itching started and has started about 1 1/2 - 2 hours after my morning and evening doses every day since.

I did go without the Ceftin for 1 entire day and NO itching. Mine is coming from the Ceftin.

God Bless You,

Pam

Yeah, I called the Dr.'s office a bit ago and they want me to stop taking it too. Will start my next antibiotics this coming Monday...3 days without 'em. {A break through Christmas}.

Merry Christmas,

Pam

I've been on ceftin 1g/day and also feel somewhat itchy and occasional small itchy rashes or dots. I was hoping it was Herx. How can we tell if it's that or just an allergic reaction?

to help itchy skin I would dissolve
nyststin powder or pills in distilled water
and rub on skin. Let dry.I know it sounds weird. but It helped me more than any thing else
I have tried. Nystatin powder worked the
best for candida -but it is harder to find
and has to be kept in the fridge. Make sure
pharmacy keep it in fridge- It losses
its strenght fast if not refrigerated.
