Hi,

Bartonella is usually treated with Rifampin 300 to 600 Mg twice daily (600 to 1200 Mg daily) combined with 400 Mg Doxy for approx 6 months.

Good Luck

aunty

Sorry you are dealing with this. Just thought I would pass along that there is a "Bartonella Alert" (I think that was how it was worded)posted on this board that was authored by Tincup.
If you do a search on it, it gives lots of great Bartonella info.
Good luck!!

Hi, I could be wrong, I am definitely not an expert, just baptised by fire, but I think a positive test pretty much says that you have it...

It's the negative or equivocal that the ducks argue over...

My daughter has lyme and bart..Her stomach is horrible so she is currently on IV Doxy and Rocephin..We still have a long way to go...

As I see it, there are a few options for Bartonella treatment.

-Rifampin and Doxy
-Levaquin or Cipro (supposed to work better with Nexium)

Some people also think that IV Claforan might be a treatment for Bartonella but I don't know if there's anything written about that.

Too late for your dr's appt, but wanted to let you know what I was told by people here on LymeNet.

I had a positive test for Bartonella in 2001.
I was told that the best treatment for bart was a combination:

EITHER Levaquin OR Cipro
AND
EITHER Biaxin OR Zithromax

I took Levaquin & Biaxin for 2 months.
A month later, still had a positive test.
Same combo for 2 more months.
No bart treatment since 6/2002.

My symptoms had been very subtle, so it would be difficult to know if it was coming back. Have not retested.

Now, Rifampin is being suggested, but I haven't taken it.
It may have fewer risks for side effects.
I don't know.

I don't have Bart but from what I've heard Rifampin is the way to go.

Good luck and keep us posted!
