I have heard much debate over the sexual transmission of Lyme. Does any one know if Lyme can be transferred between sexual partners?

No one has been able to absolutely deny that it can happen.
On the top of the screen is a search button. If you type in the words.. many previous discusions on the topic will appear.

This is an old and tense subject but I personally haven't seen any reliable studies yet. I feel that it is conjecture to say that one person contracts it from another in ANY way because you will hear about clusters in couples, families, ect. Especially in high exposure areas.
During experience as an HIV/AIDS prevention and testing counselor volunteer I would recommend that sexual partners be tested for HIV as well as any other sexually transmitted infections before becomming sexually involved.
As far as Lyme being sexually transmitted, I have inquired at training sessions based on CDC information and no one that I have spoken with has ever heard of any reliable information but I have been told that it is NOT considered to be sexually transmitted.
By the way, my husband does not have LD nor does the other partner in which I had unprotected sex for almost a year after I had contracted it.
I'm not saying that it's not possible through intercouse but highly unlikely. I think personally think that we don't have enough information yet.
I'm not a doctor though so perhaps you should ask your LLMD or go to the CDC website.

Blood in semen (Haemospermia) is not thought to be a common occurrance, but it's frequent enough to consider it as a possible vector for any blood borne disease. The blood is often only detectable by microscopic examination or staining.

The Department of Health for the state of New York, this year, listed Lyme as a communicable disease.
Also, beware, just because your partner does not show symptoms now does not mean they do not have Lyme. My husband and I have been married for 16 years and all during this time I had Lyme but was misdiagnosed with everything under the sun. My husband developed symptoms of Lyme 6 months ago. He is now undergoing treatment. ANYONE YOU HAVE HAD A SEXUAL RELATION WITH IS AT RISK, IF YOU HAVE LYME, WHETHER YOU ARE IN REMISSION OR NOT. PROTECT YOUR PARTNERS AND YOURSELF. If you think you have problems now with your Lyme wait until a partner passes a very aggressive type of Lyme and/or other coinfection to you.

Thanks for all the info!! I have had Lyme for years and never new it. I finally saw a llmd in Jan. and have been receiving treatment ever since. I also have 3 co-infections. I asked the original question because my husband is now showing definite symptoms of Lyme and is going to start with my doctor in Dec. My family MD thinks Lyme is overplayed and still isn't convinced that I have it despite all the positive blood work, positive urine results and tons of symptoms. He said that even if I had it, my husband can't contract it from me. I'm trying to gather info to show him that he is wrong. I know I need to get a supportive family doctor, but I have not had any luck finding one. I'm in health care and all the physicians I work with are very skeptical re: Lyme. They think I'm overmedicated and that my llmd is a quack. I KNOW they are wrong, but how do I convince them? I've passed out tons of literature at work. People look at it and some ask questions, but since finding a good doctor is so hard, and the fact that my llmd is no longer accepting new patients, I find myself in an impossible situation. Thanks to everyone who responded to my question!!
