I read about pro-biotics, see bottles in the markets but also know there are pill forms of it. But, is there a recommended dosage? How much should one take a day? How is it measured? Should it be in liquid form like a smoothie? Or something to be mixed in with a drink or food? I have not seen advice on the subject and would like to learn about it. My Dr. has not discussed it. Thanks.

The kind that is kept in the refrigerated section of the health food store is the only type worth taking.

It must be a refrigerated type and must contain both acidolphilus and bifidus (not sure of that spelling). My LLMD could not emphasize that enough.

I took the capsules. They were the capsules the store had that had the highest amounts of "live cell" culture per capsule. When on oral antibiotics, I was taking up to 12 caps a day.

That may sound like overkill (it did to me) but I've got to admit that I was on oral abx for over a year without any intestinal problems. I was also very careful about avoiding carbohydrates & other sugars.

Check with your LLMD as to how much you should take.

Did you know you can do a search here of all Lymenet postings? Just in case you don't get the answer you're looking for, try searching with a key word like probiotic:

Oh, very important:

When you take your probiotics, make sure it is at least two hours apart from when you take your antibiotics. Otherwise the antibiotics will just kill off the good bacteria in the probiotics.

I was taking 4 capsules three times a day. I took the last dose at bedtime, figuring it gave my intestines the entire night to enjoy the good stuff.

Primal Defense has been the answer for me and if you do a search you will find many others attesting to its powers.

Even before I knew I had lyme I had major ibs symptoms and once I found Primal Defense it quit being a problem. I take it 3 to 4 times a day and it doesnt have to kept in the fridge so you can easily carry it with you.

Overlook,

I tried several different kinds when I first started. My LLMD said the refrigerated kind is the best also.

I found that for some reason I would remember to take certain brands and others I just couldn't get into the routine of getting it down me.

I have been taking TriVita's Digestive Complex for the past 3 years now.

They need to be refrigerated after opening. I open the refrigerator before each meal and take one or two.

It seems to be working.

I signed up to be a TriVita Business Affilate so I could get the product cheaper.

I can't gift the probiotics to you but I can gift a months' supply of sublingual B12 if you are interested. Then, you can order the probiotics (digestive complex at the member price)

This month it is buy one get one half off. This doesn't happen very often.

They also have a money back guarantee...so if you don't like the product you can get your money back.

I liked this as I had put out a lot of money towards products I didn't use in the past from other companies.

I haven't tried primal defense but I have heard good things about them.

If you do a search for Lyme Chat....you will find Josh's web site. He also sells probiotics which helps him to maintain the site.

I have tried his and would purchase them again.

I use Metagenics Ultrafora + DF. It is shipped to me refrigerated, and has 20 billion organisims/capsule. I like it cuz it has a broad spectrum of probiotics.
