I'm wondering if you can take fungal meds with Primal Defense from Garden of Life.

I just bought some, and the info that came with it stated - No harsh herbal colon cleanses, no herbal parasite killers, so I am interested in what others have done as far as taking Diflucan and Primal Defense together.

Thanks.

I don't know the right answer to your question but I'd like to know it so let's bump this back up to the top.

I was planning on taking Primal Defense with generic Diflucan-I just bought some the other day and was going to use up my current probiotic first.

So hopefully the others will have an answer for us soon.

When I emailed a question to them, I heard back within a couple of days and got a pretty comprehensive reply. So I'd suggest contacting them directly at http://gardenoflife.com/contact_us.shtml

Ask them if it's an issue of excessive die off, or of medication interactions.

minoucat,

I took your advice and emailed the Garden of
Life site. Thanks for posting.

I asked them the question above, plus, I also asked them about the amount of iron in the Primal Defense and Perfect Food tablets.

Being post-menopausal, I wonder if the amount of iron in the combined products is a wise choice for someone who is beyond young.

Other than that concern, I feel their products are near perfect.

I am hoping for a reply from them.

Thanks minou.

I have wondered the same about the iron and about taking Diflucan.

Please let us know what G of Life writes back to you. Thanks much.

To those interested...

The reply I received from Garden of Life regarding the iron content for post-menopausal women was that they do not know if it would be too much iron or not.

The reply regarding whether you can take Diflucan and Primal Defense together was that they do not know.

So.....anyone out there know?

Thanks.

Hmmmmmmmmm......not sure what to do now.

I do know that one should not take Sach. Boulardii with Diflucan, as the Diflucan will kill it. P.D. has Sach. B. in it. Not sure about the other organisms in it.

My gut tells me to keep taking probiotics, even whil on Diflucan. My nurse said to keep taking them.

Thant's all I know. Worse that can happen is the Diflucan kills the good and bad stuff.

Bc,

I know, I wish I could have gotten a better reply from GOL.

The reason I was so interested is that I will be starting the 100 mg Diflucan b.i.d. protocol soon for about 4 weeks...suggested by Dr. C in MO and also Dr. B in KC. And, I just wanted to continue taking Primal Defense, but now I don't know.

Dr. B in KC has several patients on that protocol right now (too soon to tell results, however), and since I've been off abx for a short time, he said to try it, since I am loaded with yeast.

Dr. B was so interested in this Germany doc's results that he called and talked to the doc there and asked for the full text regarding this study. Actually, this all happened as a mistake, and there might not be anything to it at all. Interesting, nonetheless.

Even if it does nothing for Lyme, it may surely help eradicate Candida. Dr. C said for 25 days, Dr. B's pts are going for 4-6 weeks. I'm interested in what results this may bring. (I'll also be sure and monitor liver while doing this).

I may just continue with PB8 while on the Diflucan.

I won't start that protocol until another two weeks, I think. Too much going on right now.

Life:

I did the Diflucan 100mg for 5 weeks. It did not help my Lyme symptoms at all. The Candida die-off was pretty bad though. I went back on abx because I was still very sick. I am now doing the Diflucan 3 days a week, just to help keep the Candida at bay.

But, the PD, a good diet, GSE and a good refrigerated probiotic are all helping with the Candida. Systemic Candida has been horrible for me - sometimes worse than the Lyme symptoms.

Keep us informed as to how your trial of 4 weeks works.

I have read the posts on fungal "killers."
I have tried the diflucan in the past. Was not pleased with many things about it. Have done tons of research and came across Virgin Coconut Oil. It kills the yeast overgrowth and it is NATURAL. It does many wonderful things for a body. We have been brainwashed that it is not good for us. That is hogwash. It has helped me in many ways, and I have read the info on both sides of the story.
As an aside, I quit the antibiotics two years ago. Have had lyme for close to 30 years. I changed my diet and stopped eating processed foods. I found real meat, real milk, and real eggs. Feel 'real' better. I may never be cured of this terrible illness, but I am able to work again. Couldn't on antibiotics and don't have anyone to support me through the antibiotic ordeal. I don't want any fights, or people telling me I am wrong, it works for me. A good deal of you are still here years later and still on meds and still very sick. I can't handle or afford that. Some of us have no insurance, and have nobody to support us financially. We have to do what we have to do. A better diet, and good healthy oils (coconut, real butter, cod liver oil) and real milk will do wonders for the immune system. It may never cure me, but I am far healthier now than I ever was.
I suggest anyone on antibiotics check into the coconut oil and what it does to yeast and fungi. It enhances the immune system and is being used to treat Aids patients. It also gives me a monthly herx. It helps the body in so many ways. Check it out and see if it helps.

I take Diflucan and Primal Defense, and I'm doing fine. My yeast is basically gone, but I think that has a lot to do with the swith to Ketek.

If Diflucan kills some of the strains of probiotics in Primal Defense, it will make the Primal Defense less effective. But it won't hurt you.

beachcomber,

I think you're right about the PD, good diet and good probiotics which is a major help with Candida. That's a huge problem with me.

Autumn,

I'm envious that you have been off abx for two years with good results and maintaining on good diet, supplements, etc. I may email you if that's all right. I do have some Coconut Oil from GOL, but it's not organic. I don't use it very often...it's expensive.

Aniek,

I'm happy to know that you can take PD and Diflucan together even though it may eliminate some probiotic effect from the PD. PD is a great product.

I did start the Germany protocol two days ago with 2 100 mg Diflucan each day and will be doing that for 4-6 weeks. I'm to call Dr. B to report the results afterwards. I also will be seeing Dr. C and report to him in about a month after.

It would be wonderful if this shows good results whether it be for Candida or Lyme.

Thanks all.

I found the same results as AutumnS.,with the very same products. Respectable lit. supports their use, as well.B

Also:
See Dr. Zhang's site, http://www.Dr-Zhang.com. I think, his allicin will do-in candida and, perhaps certain if not most fungi. Search his site for other products, that will do the job.
