Hi,

What is the correct dose of malarone for babs?

I have been reading quite different stories, loading dose of 4 to 6 tabs of 250 mg in one day, followed by 1 tab daily. Also read someone else who took long term 2-4 tabs daily?

Do you take it with zithromax and if so at what dosage? And artisimsin as well?

Thanks for the info!

I dunno. I've read 4 pills for 3 days, then one daily. But recently the correct dose for mepron has been doubled, so maybe more malarone is called for, too. Because of the additional ingredient (Proguanil) a doses of malarone has less mepron than the equivalent dose of straight mepron.

Yes on the zithro and art. I don't know the zith dosage. We took mepron, with 600 mg zith once daily and 600 mg artemesinin in 2 divided doses. I did the protocol for 7 months, my husband for 10.

each malarone tablet contains 250 mg of atovaquone and 100mg of proguanil hydrochloride.

each teaspoonful of mepron (atovaquone) (5 mL) contains 750 mg of atovaquone.

so the math equals three pills malarone to one teaspoon of mepron.

normal recommendation is two teaspoons of mepron per day for babesia treatmetn equaling 6 pills malarone per day.

i haven't taken malarone but it may be more effective than mepron since malarone tablets contain both atovaquone, the agent of mepron, as well as proguanil hydrochloride which arrests the babesia protozoan from reproducing in the red blood cell.

i will have to confer with my LLMD next time i speak to him.
