I understand that the Elisa test is not an accurate indicator of Lyme (many negative test results in patients that actually do have Lyme). However, what if someone does test positive for Lyme using the Elisa test? Are positive tests suspect as well or do positive results mean Lyme enzymes were found and that Lyme disease is present? Thanks!

From what I've heard a false positive test is really non-existant. YET a false negative is perfectly normal. I live in a horribly over run area for Lyme disease and every person I talked to said it took between 1 and 6 times of being tested to come up positive. For me it was the third. The veterens of this site will tell ya, only the LLMD tests that are given are really accurate since they use a more expensive test through better facilities i.e. ingenex most family doctors use the cheapest testing facilities out there. Hey they're a business like everything else. Hope I help- mostly just rambled.

You will be hard pressed to find many who had a positive ELISA. It's amazing that a doctor will say that a positive is ELISA is a false-positive and that a negative ELISA is accurate. My ELISA was positive after 5 years of illness and before I started any abx. My family doc totally dismissed the results and tried to hide them from me.
