I have very dry eyes to the point they are crusty all the time. I use saline drops to no avail-dry again in minutes--I know there are steroidal new drugs out there for it but not interested with everything else going on right now.

I go blurry in my left eye a lot and it is hard to read the screen of my computer at times.

there are halos around car lights and street lights at night etc

I have to make an appointment with a specialist my LLD said that lyme can cause some wicked things going bad with vision

how may of you are experiencing wierd symptoms?? sometimes I just feel my vision is darker, like I do not see as well anymore--I wear glasses, they are relatively new so it is not them.

I was told iv abx can cause some blurriness etc-been off abx for 2 1/2 weeks now still blurry

any experiences--good or bad want to hear them

Cathy

Ahhhhh the halo around the headlights! Dont you hate that? Thats how I would know if I was in for a rough time in the not-to-distant future. In time it will subside with treatment- its one of the worst symptoms- The darkness of vision I can also relate to, and I bet your using lights in your house to see things you probably didnt need before when it starts to get dark. Ohh dusk! that was horrible. Over the summer when it would start to get dark, I would feel an immediate flare up- vision decrease, and red hot ears for at least 2-4 hours. Hang in there and prepare for the worst- in time it will get better.

The vision thing is AWFUL! When I was on Mepron and Zithro my whole world turned yellow....it was awful! I am doing alternative treatments now and after a treatment I get more vision issues. I get the halo around the head lights too! I also get this weird flutter thing like there is a shadow behind my eyeball, hard to explain. I think it worsens after a treatment as part of the herx reaction. As long as I don't go blind I will be happy!

I have been using an EyeCare drops from www.akgnaturals.com and it really helped with my eyes symptom. It works great!

The first week of using this I woke up every morning with stuff coming out of my eyes. I guess it cleanse it and my vision slowly improves. I already had nearsightness problems before so having the halo, blurry vision, and strange aches inside my eyeballs was not good. Oh, after 1 1/2 months doing this cleanse I went for my annual checkup my optometrist was surprised to see my nearsightedness improves half a degree.

Btw, if you want this EyeCare you need to email the company because the webpage is under construction when I tried to place my last order.

I see "ghosts" following moving objects. I've been off meds for over 2 months and still seeing them, so I think it's the lyme.

On www.marshallprotocol.com I learned all about NoIR, NO infrared/UV/blue light sunglasses.

you can do a search on the MP board, and find good info galore on what works for them, etc.
www.noir.net or com ... too many things to remember.

These are the wraparound glasses which fit over your existing glasses.

They recommend only AMBER, 901 and 907 for an adult head, 701 and 707 for a child or small head.

If you go to NOIR site, 1 frame is $48 and other is $25. When you call their 1-800 phone no., mention Marshall Protocol and they will give you 20-25% OFF!

I had my local eyewear store order a "kit" of different glasses so I could try them on. They sold them each for $10 MORE than the online quote. I waited 4 months for this.

Better to just do this yourself & get any discount you can!

Headlight halos -- wear the LIGHT colored ones at night and it's like looking at a warm cozy fire vs. the pure pain we have endured for years!

I consider my vision disturbances to be my worst symptom. I have severe light sensitivity, and glare sensitivity. Sometimes normal glares are so heightened that I can't see out of 1 or both lenses of my glasses, and this is with indoor lighting. I have black speckled floaters, blurry vision, and it is very hard to focus. This is every single day, and it doesn't vary much at all. I have been trying to find out ways to cope with this for a long time, but it has been to no avail. I was told to put "AR" coating on my regular glasses to help with the glare. I am going to do that soon but I don't think it's going to cut it.

The difference with me is that I much prefer a dark room. The lighting is much more comfortable for my eyes and I can see ok in dark lighting--I don't have problems with night vision but lights in the dark (like street lights) are killer with the glares and halos.

The halo effect is so bad that I've had to change my route home from work to avoid intersections without stoplights. I got stuck at a stopsign recently when I couldn't even determine which side of the road cars were on. All I could see were overlapping circles coming from both directions.

Sara, Steve, and others,

I hope you will seriously read my NOIR sunglasses post and order these to help alleviate your problems...identical to mine for the last 34 years!

They have helped me so much; you will never know!

Read on the marshall protocol board that it is now taking 3 weeks from time you order due to the popularity of these w/lyme and sarcoidosis patients! Check into it and then call them; they are most helpful!

Betty, could you send another link for noir glasses. Those didn't work for me.

I have a really tough time with headlight halos too. I avoid most driving at night now and take backroads instead of highways to avoid oncoming headlights.

Dry Eye Relief: When I had Bell's Palsy I tried every eye drop in the drugstore. The only one that gave lasting relief and let me see clearly was a small tube called: GenTeal Gel, severe, preservative free.

GenTeal is a clear soothing gel that kept my eye lubricated for much longer than anything else. I kept a tube in the car and another in my bag.

At night before going to bed I protected my dry eyes with a thicker ointment that lasted all night. It blurs vision and is not suitable for daytime use. There are many brands, some very overpriced. The main ingredients are petrolatum & mineral oil. I used Bausch & Lomb Moisture Eyes PM.

I wasn't crazy about putting such ingredients in my eyes but it was necessary. Protecting my eye was my main focus for my first month of Lyme.

Bell's Palsy websites and discussion groups have lots of good ideas about keeping eyes lubricated & protected. My eye closed partially but could hardy blink when I had BP.

How about Bilberry extract? Great for the eyes, especially the macula.

An opthamologist could take a look and maybe determine if it's the eyes or neurologic.

The optic chiasm could be inflamed/diseased, and interestingly, the most common initial symptom of multiple sclerosis--which overlaps with Lyme and may, probably, have the same cause--is blurry or disturbed vision usually presumed to be a lesion/s in the optic chiasm.

What about heavy metals? It's quite important to check here too as they can do this as well.

My weirdest visual symptom has been the helicopter that hovers right above my head.

What about grape seed extract? Pine bark? These both improve microcirculation in and around the eyes.

Good luck.

Hey Griswoldgirl,

My eye symptoms are very close to yours - constant dry eyes, halos and rays around light sources, light sensitivity, but I also experience a lot of pain in my eyes, like eye muscle soreness and the feeling that my eyeballs are swollen. These all started months before I actually started taking anti-biotics though, so I know it has nothing to do with the treatment.

One of the most aggravating things I experience is all the floaters in my vision. They vary from long trails to dark spots, but there are some very small, translucent ones that I am convinced are actually the bugs themselves. I have been to 2 eye doctors but, unfortunately, both were quacks who wanted to ascribe my symptoms to a) the natural aging process (I'm only 34), b) my imagination. If I could find a lyme-literate eye doctor, I would be extremely happy.

Hi Betty,

I went ahead and ordered some Noir glasses. I have been searching for something to help with these problems for a long time, and I REALLY appreciate your suggestion! I will let you know how I like them when they arrive!

Thanks again,
Sara
