Men, you probably can't help with this question!

I haven't had my period since last July, the month I got Lyme. I'm wondering what other Women have experienced with Lyme and menstruation.

I'm 43 y.o. In May I went off birth control pills & was a hormonal mess, hot flashes, night sweats etc. No period in June. In July I got my period and hot flashes & night sweats stopped.

By the beginning of August I was really sick with Lyme. New problems with temperature regulation started but were different from the hot flashes. It's hard to know for sure which problems are from going off the pill & which are from Lyme.

I've heard that Lyme gets much worse during periods so I'm kind of glad I'm not having any.

Anyone else with similar experiences?

Looking back on symptoms, lyme could have been the reason my periods were so messed up.

I went 9 months without a period at one time. Before that, they were really heavy.

I went to the docs at the time because of the headaches, fatigue, low temps, no period, and other symptoms.

They ran the usual tests and I was told it was just stress. Now, I think it may have had something to do with the lyme infection.

I have never been on the pill so can't help with that part.

In 1993, my periods started skipping all over the place (after 11 years of total regularity) and stopped ovulating. At the time, I was dx with PSOS-Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome due to my symptoms. I was in no way sick at that time.

I became terribly ill in 1999 and have been since. Last year I was dx with Lyme and Babesiosis. My LLMD suspects that they are related, but I don't really know. Good luck!

I had/have exactly your experiences.

It started at age 40. Was taking the pill on and off because I wanted to stop taking it but couldn't go through all the heat flash and other trouble so I took it again ...

December 2002 I stopped the pill for good. Since then I went downhill and was diagnosed with Lyme in October 2003. Since then I'm in treatment and since then I had no normal period anymore.

Most of the times I don't have one at all. I have different kinds of heat flashes - some coming very sudden, mainly chest and head and going away within 1-2 minutes. Others come slower, include all upper body and stay longer.

Sometimes these heat flashes stopp and I get a little bit of period. I'm 47 now and I have no idea how I can find out if it's Lyme or if it's only Menopause. But I tend to believe it's Lyme that caused me to get early Menopause.

It's good to know it's not just me! Actually I haven't found a single Lyme symptom yet that wasn't experienced by many others on this board. Without LymeNet I'd be doubting my sanity by now.

Kay what are the otc hormones you are taking and what kind of hormonal tests did you have. I'm wondering if I need some tests.

Lyme wreaked havoc on my endocrine sysmtem. Never stopped my periods, but after a lifetime of regular menses they became very irregular and light/spotty.

Abx treatment and hormonal supplementation have helped, but my periods, although regular again, are still lighter and shorter than they used to be. I definitely prefer this as long as it is a sign of health.

Let me throw my hat into the proverbial ring.

Have had lots of problems with my period too. I'm 44 and thought I went through early menopause until I started treatment for Lyme.

Then, BOOM, periods again, but their not regular yet.

Was told at my LLMD's that Lyme messes up the endocrine system. Also I take DHEA 25 mg. a day because it was low in my bloodwork.

I believe DHEA is a hormone so that might have helped my period to start again too.

Before treatment I had menopausal symptoms but not anymore.

Go figure!!!

Hi,

Lyme really messes with the hormones and menstrual cycles. I have had off periods my whole life. Now for the last 10 years, it's every 21 days for 8 days. This from getting it whenever it felt like coming unless I was on the pill, which I wouldn't take now.

It messess with thyroid too, and all this is connected. Gyno problems are common, everything from endo, to cervical dysplaysia. Weakness, dizziness during period and increase in symptoms. Lyme als messes with the pituartary gland and hyptothalmaus. Lovely spelling today eh?

Wouldn't bother me if mine didn't come.
That would be a blessing.I have experienced polyneuropathy many times during menses that I thought for sure I would die.

Yah -
Add me to the list.
I was always very regular - no problems till
I got sick with un diagnosed Lyme. AFter several years (with Lyme) I started having problems with periods - clots, infection - then early menopause at around age 37. Docs thought
it was either genetically early - or an autoimmune problem. )I also had endometriosis) But hormones indicated true menopause starting (high FSH).

SO. In hind site - I think it was un treated Lyme - just running amok.
