Why does it take so long to feel better and get past a plateau, even with HEAVY ABX treatment for six months?

You may have a co-infection, even if you tested negative. If you are concerned about babesia, try taking artemisinin and watch for a change in symptoms. If your LLMD is already giving you heavy abx, you will probably get an okay to try bartonella abx for a while, to see if it works.

As someone who just lost 4.5 years to undiagnosed babs and bart, and has heard the "plateau" theory many times, I strongly encourage you to take them seriously.

I assume you have been tested for coinfections...although a negative result doesn't mean you don't have one!

From my own experience, I don't think six months is very long at all. It took me two years to feel better!

Did not make much progress until I went to a new LLMD who treated me for the coinfections and that seemed to be the key.
It's worth the five hour drive to see him!

I grossly underestimated Lyme and learned there is no fast forward.It took me two years to turn the corner on Lyme and Babesia. I don't think too many people wake up one morning and say "I think it's all gone" but you will gradually have more good days than bad.Believing you will get better helps some and knowing others actually do means you can too!

You don't say how long you may have been infected. I was infected for at least nine years before receiving antibiotic treatment, and it is seven years after that and I am still fighting to get my life back.

It took me a while to fiture this out:

Unless you also treat the underlying factors, it takes a long time to turn the corner, if ever. These are environmental toxins you have accumulated over a lifetime (exposure through work and hobbies), heavy metals, viruses, parasites, fungi, mercury from dental fillings and from your mother, etc.

There is a lot of information on this site.

Thanks for the info. I was given a month of Malarone for coinfections, but it didn't seem to do much. I still waver up and down...but can't really break through and feel good. It was nine months raging without diagnosis, and now 6 months of HEAVY antibiotic treatment.
