Before diagnosed with lyme, I would do a lemonade or juice fast (only liquid nutrients & water) for about 10 days twice a year or so to detox and clean my body. It would make me feel great and would clear up some of my symptoms. I'd venture to say that it would be good to do another cleanse but I'm not sure if this is smart being that I'm now on antibiotics. Anyone have any experience with fasting & cleansing in combination with lyme?

Good evening Cosmo,

I have seen this question asked a few times here, and the generally accepted answer has always been that fasting isn't really a great idea with TBDs.

Our bodies are already compromised, and adding another stress to them by fasting may be a bit too much to take.

And yes, fasting while taking ABX is really not such a good idea at all. Many meds require that you have something in your tummy so they don't cause problems.

If you really want to improve your chances, try and follow a low carb/low sugar diet with plenty of water and frsh lemon... and be sure to take your pro-biotics!

My best,
Melanie

I kind of knew the answer but figured I'd get someone else's opinion. I've been eating "right" and taking probiotics for a couple of years so my immune system is actually pretty good considering. I hate having to take antibiotics but feel I'm left with no choice. I've only been on the abx for a week and plan to work with my llmd and holistic practioner to figure out exactly what to take, etc. In the meantime, what are your thoughts on colonics? I'm assuming this may not be a good idea right now either since it may completely deplete any good flora left in my system?
